These sums deserve what they get. Imagine the crimes they committed. I'm sure their victims would take those living conditions over dismemberment or torture or rape... or all 3. No sympathy from me. I think they need an express lane for execution In all other states too.
He didn't actually kill anyone. His codefendant did with a 22 caliber rifle(I think). The guy just executed was with him and only shot the girl with a pellet gun and watched her cry
Plus the guy just executed has an IQ from 67-72. in most states that have death penalty execution is not allowed for retarded (under 70). This guy apparently just made the cut. According to his TX death row info chart, his highest grade/education level completed was grade 9. So looks like he dropped out of high school after 9th grade. Probably a complete idiot from rural republican redneck Texas, yes, but I don't know if he could comprehend what he did.

That's right! My favorite little tidbit from that dumb motherf**ker's whine-fest is when he accuses TDJC of being "unethical" because they are committing "mass murder." What that little f**krag fails to realize is that he wouldn't even be there if not for committing murder himself. But that's how it goes, most murderers have absolutely no conscience. I have no sympathy for these people, they should know that if they commit these crimes in the third world, they should expect a third world punishment.
The sad thing is that the USA doesn't use the death penalty to prevent crime or to make a point. State governers use the death penalty to make them more popular at the voting station. Is this a good enough reason?
Look, if you kill someone (or help someone do it), you should be killed in return. I agree that the death penalty as is is not an effective deterrent. I say go back to hangings on the public square and leave the body there until it starts to stink. Now, there is a deterrent. Plus in the winter, you get a perpcicle!!

So it's about retribution?
If you look at the death penalty in a completely non-emotive way, you'd see that there really isn't any argument for it.
1) More expensive than life in prison
2) No more of a deterrent than life in prison
3) One mistake completely undermines the whole system.
No place for it in a mature society I'm afraid.
Anti-death penalty doesn't always mean sympathy for the criminals though. I couldn't care less what they go through, although I do have sympathy for anyone who was convicted wrongly and executed. That's pretty unfortunate.
How would a death sentence be more expensive if you do away with the years of appeals? The process should be swift. I agree that the way it is set up now does cost more. Maybe we should fix the process. Why should we have to feed and house someone who has been sentenced to die? And, you can always reuse the rope.

Several death sentences have been overturned after new evidence that emerged years later. How many innocent people need to die so we can build your speedy death utopia?

If a person is convicted of a capital crime, they should have an automatic appeal. That appeal should be used to make sure the law was carried out through the trial. It shouldn't be the start of a lengthy appeals process just because the defendant doesn't like the verdict.

Additionally, it is much more of a deterrent than life in prison. In prison, the convicted still has opportunity to kill. If dead, he quite obviously doesn't have that opportunity. He has been permanently deterred.
Cold blooded and senseless murder has no place in a civilized society. Carrying out the laws of the land and holding people responsible for their actions help keep a society mature.
One error is all it takes.
