Glue plastic laminate to it and you're in business. If you have zero confidence with tools or how to apply laminate properly, then do what others suggested and buy a board.

It seems like strong plywood cut to size with the proper laminate on top and bottom is the most effective and simplest solution. But then, what is the proper laminate? Countertop coating seems to be a popular choice, but is there a reason no one has mentioned a teflon laminate?
