Interesting that Koech is pictured in December 2010 wearing the adidas pro kit, but in the Dusseldorf race today he had on what looked to me like a general-issue (i.e., not pro-kit) Nike singlet. Could he be unsponsored?

What is age got to do with his running? This is not world junior, this is world senior and it is open for everyone to compete. Kenyans are GOOD. It is easy to prove if Kenyans dope or use any performance enhancing drugs, Let us get all the high school kids from the US OR Europe form a team and let them compete against kenyan high school kids, oooh, Nike used to invite Kenyan juniors to compete with US Kids at Portland Meadows during the Nike Pre Nationals meet, Kenya swept all the top positions both men and women, I guess they are doping too uh. Ridiculous.

hold your horses
that only assumes they were in same shape outdoors/indoors
the actual centripetal force in an indoor 5k is not much different from an outdoor because of the relatively slow speeds ( 6.25 - 6.5m/s ) compared to obvious difference in 200m or 400m indoors/outdoors when speeds are getting upto 9 or 10m/s
the force depends on square of speed & like i said, with 6.25 - 6.5m/s is helluva lot less than with 9 or 10m/s
from this, an estimate for outdoor conversion for a 12'53i run is
~ 4s
this "kid" ran about the equivalent of
12'49
It does not matter. Twas indoors, thus null and void as the Europeans remind us here every year.

Here are the only two videos on Youtube of Koech. They are from 2009 at the World Youth Championships when he was supposedly 15.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOO_WVy2vPghttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcOuBbuKY7kI'm gonna doubt that 1993 is this guy's real birthday. But amazing performance, regardless of age.
They sure race like juniors ... 55/56s lap between with 2k to go, what's that all about?
I thought he looked about 17-18 in that interview so he is probably some where around 19-20(if his age is even wrong which it might not be because honestly Kenyans look more mature than Americans at that age) which is still an amazing performance.

They basically just make up a birth date when they get picked up by an agent. I mean that's all they can do, is make a wild guess how old they are. There's nothing else they can do.
It's funny how they never get it wrong the other way though.
Yeah, like how Sammy is 50 and running sub 15 5k? Clearly, you have no idea what you're talking bout.
and here is the young lad when he was just 15 or 16 or was it 25?
Obviously he's older than 17, but I don't think he's doped. He doesn't need to be. His genetic advantage gives him many more benefits than any steroid or epo-like substance.
See the following study showing how Tibetans have EVOLVED the ability to survive 15,000 ft altitude conditions:
We all have to get over this politically correct idea that everyone is born the same. We're not.
The idea that East Africans are faster than white people because they work harder is ridiculous. They have evolved a superior ability to extract and utilize oxygen that MOST white people simply don't possess. Of course there will always be statistical outliers like Solinsky and Ritz, but due to their genetic heritage, Kenya and Ethiopia have thousands of young kids with their ability.

If people believe that a 15 year old can run 7:51, then they're pretty stupid.
You have to take any Kenyan athlete's age with a huge pinch of salt.
Next Ngeny?
If you are willing to lie about your age, why not about doping. A liar is a liar plain and simple. Its not a big deal he's older than 17, but it is that he's using it to his advantage to gain popularity.
Go to Iten and check it out by yourself. There is no need to assume.
Yeah. He's really trying to be popular with pasty-faced skinny white boys all over the world...that's why he's lying about his age. By the way, most runners have lied at some point in their lives. Does that mean most runners are dopers? After all, a liar is a liar, simple and plain, right?

The entire Kenyan youth and junior system is steeped in fraud. Remember a few years ago that some of their runners jumped to Qatar when the Kenyan Federation came out and reported their real ages?
They don't have real ages, Canova has written about it here, these guys just don't know when they were born, and when they go get a passport they just guess the year of birth, some of them are as much as 6 years older than what their birth certificates state.

I've heard the same from people who have worked in Kenya. From what I understand, birth certificates are not that important in the Kenyan countryside.
The West is in denial and they will never never compete with Kenyans and Ethiopians at higher level. The west is still stuck in formalities and rely mostly on conventional wisdom. You still stuck in the 60s and 70s, well you need to get over that. You people need to wake up and realise that you suck in long distance running. Stop relying on Ryan Hall, Rupp, Solinsky, Meb etc. These runners do their best to compete but the sheer number of Kenyans and Ethiopian runners will overshadow anything these guys do. Running Formalities are holding the west back, you still seem to searching for best practises in running, well keep on searching. Kenyans and Ethiopians are way beyond formalities. Instead of looking for ways to catch up you spent alot of your time accusing people of dopping. The records are there to be broken and young kenyans are hiding the roads everyday at 6 am not so they look cute on the track but to go for world records. Take you pills bc you are about to be shocked again.

You will NEVER see a kenyan qualify for any strongest man contests or win shot put events based on genetics. Would you ever see the equivalent of a 2:06 marathon performance in the shot put or strongest man contest by a kenyan? What do whites have, yep a 2:06 marathon performance plus a whole slew of fast performances down to 400m not to mention ultrarunning elites. I could never understand the amount of whining about one's racial talent given the performances that's been accomplished already. Throw in the age, lying, and doping accusations onto others and it all just becomes some ego trip to make one feel better about not being number one. Respect that you are NOT number one and give kudos to the winner as in all sports, and just run baby and work harder because you are NOT that far behind genetically as you wish you were for some weird reason.
transmara, you're the one who's in denial. There have been numerous documented cases of Kenyan juniors competing with false documentation. It's not that they don't know their actual ages, it's that they flat out cheat. The Kenyan Federation is a willing accomplice when it benefits them, but quickly turns on their runners to expose them if they leave the country to compete for another.
The thing is we only hear about small fraction of the cases becasue the KAAA is up to their ears in it.
