If these Kenyans and Ethiopians are really so much older than their listed age - let's say 23 instead of 17 - then where the hell were they 3 years ago when they were really 20?
Please, stop bringing logical thinking to the table!

Check out Kipchoge's eyes at 1:01. He already knows who his competition's going to be.
You, sir, need to learn to respect the marathon.
You will never understand Kenyan runners myfriend. Alot of people have tried to anylyse and study Kenyan running and runners, Kenyans are the only ones that understands Kenyans. You can say dopping dopping dopping but you will never never never never catch a kenyan dopping. Dream on.
I have to say, 13:21 for Rupp strikes me as disappointing. It sounds like he obviously could have run a better time if he didn't go out at 13 to 13:05 pace. But frankly, I thought he could sustain close to a 13:05 pace to the finish based on what I have read. He ran his PB last spring. by all reports (or lack thereof) he has stayed healthy. He was running more miles and Salazar said he was noticeably stronger.
But whatever. Solinsky wasn't exactly tearing it up last year indoors as I recall and he obviously came on later in the year.
actually he is generally thought to be a year or two younger than that- which still makes him pretty damn old. go ask an ethiopian how old Geb is. you'll laugh.

Actually Rupp ran his PB in August - not exactly the spring.
I see no reason to expect him to be able to best a PB run just six months ago, at the height of the outdoor season, in his indoor opener in February. If anything, that would be cause for concern, given the length of the season ahead of him.
Solinsky did lose to Rupp at indoor nationals last winter, but he also had a strong opener at UW, running 3:55 when he claimed to be expecting to struggle to break to 4:00 because he had done no speedwork.
surprisingly, rupp's 13:21i is top 40 all time, and he was running 13:04 pace for 2 miles, so it's not a bad performance. He'll probably still scare 13 flat outdoors in July/August and he was close to the A standard, but it does indicate where he stands relative to the world elite, that is, very far back. The winner has a pretty amazing progression from 7:51 3k in 2009 to 13:07 in 2010 to 12:53i. Of course, the 3k was winning a World Youth Championship, but why don't any American runners ever do a progression like that at any age? I guess that Solinsky and Ritz did something akin to I's 5k drop or more, but both were in their mid 20s when making the big drop. Imagine if German had done that after running 7:47i as a freshman. And now we have Ethiopians and Kenyans running 7:27/7:28/7:29 (and 12:55) and 12:53 all indoors. Should be an incredible year.
Koech is not a smooth Kenyan. Arm carriage is weird or something.
I'm talking indoors. He ran 13:14 during this same week in February last year.

I guess Rupp just blew up today. He might put it together next time out.
once again we may see haile-tergat type of comptition b/n koech and alamirew eventhough and it is too earlly to say who is going to be Knock out. hailu mekonnen the one who brook the indoor 2mile of haile and never seen again.

Yes. I don't see this as reason to be concerned or excited. Not enough information to tell. His 13:21 going out at the pace he did, is probably roughly equal to his 13:14 last year which went out at a slower than 13:14 pace then picked up. He tried to go a bit faster than he was ready to , and paid the price. It happens. This was also his first legit race indoors this year, so not too shabby from that perspective. When he went 13:14 last year he'd already done a mile and a 3k as a good warmup for it. Just a few things to consider.
Either way we should wait to see how he responds in his next few races to make judgements.

Mesfin, we've missed you! This could be a good rivalry, yes...

Soon, you'll see there Lagat and Solinsky stand.
So, have the excuses started yet??
well, lets see; Rupp now has three of the top five performances all time US indoor 5k, no excuse needed "Coach d"

You sir, clearly have no idea about Kenyan life. His arm carriage is "weird" because most likely on that arm he slung his back pack over it while running school. Gebs form and Koechs form are very similar.
