Running: 3 Things You Hate, 3 Things You Love

hate-the fact that most races are accompanied by huge

markets selling useless gadgets.

getting sick/injured

people who think they know everything about running and feel they have a duty to tell the world their mistaken knowledge

love-interval workouts where your body is perfectly in sync and you don't even feel tired

running all-out 100's and feeling as if you are weightless

chilling on an easy run without a care in the world

3 Things I love:

1. The feeling you get after finishing the 'perfect run.' When you feel so amazing that you could run forever and it reminds you why you love running so much.

2. Doing a workout or run in the pouring rain and having on-lookers say shit like "omg they are crazy!"

3. Kicking at the end of the race - that nervous, but excited feeling you get right as you kick and the feeling of passing people with the last bit of everything you have left.

3 Things I hate:

1. Injuries

2. Disappointment

3. Mile repeats workout

Love

1 Being able to eat more food

2 Being skinny

3 Winning races

Hate

1 People who don't realize my advice is always correct

2 People who are sick or injured all the time

3 People who won't buy anything at the expos I set up at.

love:

1. social aspects, it's easy to become friends with other runners.

2. it's simple.

4. it's easy to feel like you've done a lot of work, easy to achieve a sense of accomplishment.

3. seeing pretty places

hate:

1. getting injured.

2. sometimes it becomes monotonous

3. bad weather

Love:

1. That feeling you get standing on the start race as a race is about to begin.

2. The camaraderie of the team setting and having a group of people who would give everything to attain one goal

3. The fact that distance running isn't purely based on natural talent. If you work hard enough, improvement will come.

Hate:

1. Reading negative posts on Letsrun about pros, "hobbyjoggers," and just the overall pessimistic views that people feel they need to express here.

2. When you have the race of your life, yet still fall short.

3. People asking me if I'm training to run a marathon. (Eventually I will, but not for at least 8 years)

Hey, I'm a hobbyjogger. Do people really say bad things about me on here?

3 Things I love:

1. Running to clear my mind, decompress, or think things over.

2. Stepping on the line (especially for XC or relays) with teammates who have become brothers.

3. Hunting people down in a 200 meter kick.

3 Things I hate:

1. Running can kill my social life.

2. Very few people can understand the sport or appreciate it.

3. Running messes with my stomach

1. Mountain runs

2. Long runs deep in the woods

1. Lack of marketing the elites

2. The term "tactical" race for sprint and jogs

3. TV coverage of midpackers/plodders, and not elites

1. The feeling of crushing a race after a long stretch of hard training.

2. Being able to travel with my team almost every weekend.

3. Training your ass off with the same guys day in and day out.

1. The fact I'm seriously hurt right now and can't do any of the above listed things.

3. Being exhausted a lot of the time.

2. The anxiety I get when I have a budy day but I know I have to get a workout in

1) That first cool, dry day of fall after a humid summer when you feel invincible.

2) Finishing a track workout, legs pumped full of blood and light-headed, knowing you will be faster next time you run.

3) Having something to be passionate about and dream about, while everyone else is sleepwalking through life.

Hate

1) Always get injured when I feel like I'm finally "in shape"

2) Dealing with naysayers who think it's a waste of time to want to run as fast as possible.

3) "Bad days" when you feel sore and slow as crap.

Love

-running negative splits in a race and passing tons of people

-those runs where I become completely locked in and aware, it is almost enlightenment. I keep expecting to see bodhi trees.

Love - racing, easy runs, workouts.

Hate - not racing, not doing easy runs, not doing workouts.

Love:

1. The "perfect" run- where everything is in sync and you don't want to stop.

2. Enjoying some beer and fried food after that perfect run.

3. The friendships I've developed over 40 years of running.

Hate:

1. People who tell me running is bad for my- knees, back, will freeze my lungs, etc

2. People who just don't get how fast we run and think we're not pushing the limits.

3. People who are satisfied with just finishing- like walking breaks and jogging are ok instead of pushing their limits.
