You know, there was that one 2003 world champion in the 5,000 at 18 who went on to get an olympic bronze medal in Athens at 19. Then she went on to win the 5,000/10,000 double at Beijing. What was her name again? Tirunesh something?

And on a standard indoor track rather than the oversized, very fast UW indoor surface. An excellent run for Reid.
Yeah, that Supercharged UW track has produced one NCAA leader after another this season...

I knew someone would mention the illegal track.
The Armory reminds me of a HO gauge track

Why wouldn't someone mention it? There is a reason that it was deemed illegal, because it gives a decided advantage to athletes who have access to it.

Can't you just put how old they both are?

Sounds almost exactly like some Kenyan runner(except for the Double Olympic in 2008) that we also know...Hmm...What was his name again? Eluid..Something?

What do people think about this? Pretty impressive.
It's a good opener for her, that's it for now. She ran what, the equiv of a 911? outdoors in 2008. As her XC season showed, she's def turned the corner and is ready to throw down some big times this year.
When she drops into the 8:50's, then we should get excited (which i think there's a good chance she will this year).
that sucks

in response to "not a god send"... please name one runner who has a better resume than Jordan Hasay at the age of 19? Name one....please. Name ONE.
Is that a joke, or do you just always make ridiculous statements like that?
How about Pamela Jelimo, who won olympic gold at 18 in the 800.
Want Americans? Allyson Felix, German Fernandez, Robby Andrews....and that was just off the top of my head.

There is such a double standard here. Notice how people were making a big deal out of Fernandez's 3:5x miles as a freshman when there were a few much older runners running similar times.
no, there weren't... fernandez set the ncaa indoor record as a freshman... if hasay had run 8:42 (the indoor women's record) as a freshman, then we would make just as big a deal...
NCAAs are not age group races. The objective is to score points, period.
Which is why our college system doesn't produce more world class runners.
Hasay's performance was just as impressive because of the age difference. Yes, it does matter.
~25 years ago Kathy Hayes of Oregon ran 8;55....as a freshman.
OK. All great athletes. But, has anyone (distance running) accomplished much more through the age of 19 as Jordan has?
(2) Junior Olympic Cross Country National titles
(4) Junior Olympic Track and Field National titles (1500M and 3000M)
(4) High School State Cross Country championships
(4) High School State Track and Field Championships (3200M)
(2) National Cross Country Footlocker championships
(5) USA Track and Field Junior National championships
(2) USA Junior Cross Country National championships
Now that's consistency.

Same deal here, Hasay is a much younger runner and her PRs are faster than Reid/Areson were at the same age. Those 2 are great runners, not to take anything away from them, but for a young runner who hasn't even turned 20 this is a stupendous performance.
Fernandez is the NCAA record holder for the mile, no one has run a faster indoor mile than him. He did that as a true freshman. Very different situation than this. 13:25 is the American junior record for 5000m, Chelanga is not an American so why should we compare against him?

Wrong she is OLD in terms of years of training and racing.she will never break 15.
but she looks physically immature for her age.
I'll do you one better and give you one who's currently running.
Chris Derrick.
