People are comparing to Webb...how bout Jeff Nelson? Also set the 2 mile record in HS, went to college and struggled valiantly with injuries.

Fernandez is a remarkable talent and will be back to his old way soon. Everyome is entitled to a bad race every once in a while. Hopefully he will kill it outdoors and qualify for worlds In the 5000m.
Good luck.
umm ways and everyone...damn iPhone keyboard.

Don't you remember the interview with his coach? No 5000m for a while
Ya, and McElroy got near dead last in the non invite 3k. I believe he was 2nd at footlocker last year and lost to some absolute scrubs.
Don't talk about what you don't know... Buddy.
Don't get me started on 3rd year Ryan Prentis who can't even match his sub 9 3200m equivalent... in a college. Also where is where is Sean Fleming. Two-time Canadian cross champ?
So who are we supposed to root for as Americans? Webb and Hall are head cases, Rupp is a pussy and has no up side, Ritz is fragile, Lagat and Meb aren't American, and German peaked in high school when he had his first 6 months of consistent training ever.
I guess Solinsky? But he has his head in the clouds with this WR talk, and he's too bulky.
Wheating, I choose you!
"German is done. Theres no excuses. He's had all the time and training to get close to his NCAA record.What ever injuries or problems he's had seriously and probably permanently hurt him. I see a very Webb like career for him if even that.(high inconsistency and never living up to his potential)Bye German"

........Dude! It ain't over to the fat lady sings!!!
If the shoe "incident" did actually happen as stated, then German did the right thing! There's no use in risking another stupid injury just to catch back up and look cool. Chill'in in the back and finishing off solid was the right option. I'm not making excuses for the guy but we should give him the benefit of the doubt and hope for a better race next time.
If there is any doubt that our sport is attracting the bottom of the barrel, this is it. Not one of you is even worthy enough to carry his water for him. I would think that even under cover of anonymity, you little dickless twits would be embarrassed to push the send button.
You're on a roll, malmo. This is about the third or fourth time in the past two weeks that I heartily agree with you. GF will be back--I'm excited to see more races from him, indoors and out. The guy's super talented and by all accounts also a very nice and intelligent person. I'm rooting for him. But then again, I also want to see Rupp, Ritz, Hall, Meb, Lagat, Hasay, Webb, LV, etc etc do well. I'm kinda positive like that and enjoy seeing people work hard and do well. Unfortunately, most of the posters on here wouldn't understand that...

Hey tidbits. I would love for you to post the race, but if not, I would love to get a copy...even if it's from an iPhone. I think an email you can reach me is attached. And thanks.

Wow you're right, your post was the bottom of the barrel.
IF an athlete is injured all the time it is the fault of the coach. An athlete of his caliber can well very good not at max fitness. Get this boy healthy, keep him healthy and build from there.
If he ran 4:05-4:10 healthy it is a place he can build from. If I were his coach I would hold him back and get 6 months to a year of injury free running before we push it. Why?
Healthy = running
Injury = not

CoachB, how long have we been waiting for this kid to actually "roll?" More to the point, where are all of the naive young fan-boys from this thread...

Since 2005, the first time I saw him run as a high school frosh. Actually, that is not true. I was not convinced until 2006 when he put off arthroscopic surgery to triple at our leage meet and help his team win its 9th consecutive title.
However, let's be clear. I don't think German needs to prove anything to anybody on this board. The marks he's put up and the titles he's already won would be considered an outstanding set of achievements for anyone.
Hey Mr. Rent is too damn high!
Meb is an American. You should do some research before making idiotic opinions. He came to the states as a young 11 year old boy escaping the war in Eritrea when his father got them out of there. He grew up in San Diego, CA, ran for San Diego High School and became one of the best high school runners in the country. From there he went to UCLA and became one of the best NCAA runners in the country. From there he turned pro and signed with Nike and has had a great career getting an AR in the 10000m in 2001, a silver medal in 2004 Athens, several USA National Titles, and 2009 NYC Marathon Champ. So his progress and success has come from his extremely hard work ethic and determination to be one of the best. Meb has lived in the states most of his life. So what is a definition of an American? He doesn't have to be white with blue eyes to be an American. America is the land of the free, the land of opportunity, and the land with the most diverse nationalities that makes us strong. So next time think before you call someone not American.

He's f'n fine! He had to fix his shoe, lost about 4 seconds on that lap, realized there's no point in destroying himself for a stupid 4:01 win with a great story to go along with it, so he cruised at 31s to the finish. He was perfectly steady to the finish and surely wasn't dead at the end.

What the f*** is the matter with you?
Sorry that was a poor attempt at sarcasm by stating all of the absurd criticisms LetsRunners usually have about American elites. Just trying to sum up the negativity of this message board. Wheating came to mind as an elite that hasn't gotten much criticism.
I consider Meb an American and I root for him, and all of the other runners I mentioned.
Its all good man, I was just sticking up for Meb because he is a good friend of mine and I have seen a lot of comments about Meb in the past about not being American. I dont know if you have read his book yet but it is called "Run To Overcome". It is truly an amazing story about his early life in Eritrea, coming to the states, and living the American Dream. It is really inspirational. Sorry for my harsh words as well, I just know Meb loves representing the USA and he took quite a bit of heat after winning the NYC Marathon in 2009 in which many said Meb was not a true American. Thanks for clearing that up.

Well put. I can not believe all the hate in track and field. No wonder there is no fan base in America.
I've been a SF Giant baseball fan for 48 years. In baseball when a player from another teams does well he get rooted for by the other teams fans.
But on this running forum, it all about wanting to see Americas best runners do bad.
So, I believe you Babozos, are not fans, but frustrated runners that can't or has never run very fast and are jeaslous of Americas best runners.
The only way to relieve your frustrations is to bash Americas runners.
Just like Pre would have done it! You either ache to win or you don't. He didn't and he doesn't.
