Even the punters and kickers? Nice try.

Even them.

maybe the best thing for the team isn't having a quarterback too selfish to realize playing with a torn acl is not best for his team to win....playing hurt isn't always a noble thing
If I remember the Rivers thing correctly, he did leave the game when he initially suffered the injury. His team won that game without him, and then he had a midweek surgery which allowed him to play the following week. So to act like he just shrugged off an ACL injury is a bit misleading. He couldn't finish the game that he suffered the injury in.
What you are saying is too intelligent for most NFL fools to grasp. Sometimes it takes a lot of courage to admit you aren't the best man for the job at hand.

From the linked San Diego Union-Tribune story -
"Rivers earned widespread respect from teammates, fans and media for playing the AFC Championship game without an anterior cruciate ligament, and six days after surgery to remove most of his meniscus. "
What the hell was he going to tell Hanie that wasn't readily apparent already? "Hey Hanie, our O-Line still sucks"
I have never been a great runner, and I was not a great football player, but I ran and played injured quite often. Concussions, stress fractures, bursitis, and I ran Bayshore Marathon in '08 with a torn MCL, split tear of the posterior tibialis tendon, and osteo-chondritis dessicans L-knee. I knew my knee was f***ed 3 weeks before, but I HAD to run it. I did not finish w/ my 2:50 goal, but I ran 3:06 in EXCRUCIATING pain over the last 8 miles. I'll never win a marathon, or 'lead' an NFL team to an NFC championship game, but I will never QUIT the way Jay Cutler did. I can't believe some of you are actually defending him. He has to hold some kind of NFL record for temper-tantrums. I'm not saying he is a puzzy, but quitters can go play Canadian Football League for all I care

Haile Gebrselassie didn't run the 5000 at the Atlanta Olympics because he had a bad case of blisters. He dropped out of the NYC marathon because of a bad knee. Haile Gebrselassie is absolutely not lacking in toughness, guts, etc.
Keeping going when you are hurt, especially if you are risking making it worse, possibly much worse, is not tough. It is just stupid.
That quarterback made the right call. Even if it was the wrong call in retrospect . . . well, hindsight is 20/20.

Philip Rivers did play the AFC championship game a week AFTER he injured his knee. He left the game in the playoff game where he hurt his knee, the backup QB (Volek) finished the game. There was some criticism of Rivers the day of that game that he should have been out there. I'm just saying an apples to apples comparison of the two would only be relevant for the next game.
Thanks for all the comments everyone. I haven't read them all but as a GB fan I'm thrilled to 1. Have my team in the SB. 2. Have beaten the Bears to get there. 3. Witness the Chicago fans boo there own team at halftime. 4. Have the United States of America devote the entirety of Monday, January 24,2011 debating whether the Bears QB is a quitter.
It doesn't matter what the rest of the country thinks. The city of Chicago will forever question Cutler and he will never succeed there as a result. This is another great chapter in the rivalry. In the future this game will simply be known as the game the Cutler quit on the Bears - whether or not that is accurate.
no it wont, only retards who didn't like cutler in the first place are saying he quit
i GUARANTEE YOU that if peyton manning had torn his MCL, 99% of the people bashing cutler right now would not be doing the same thing to peyton
it doesn't matter if he can stand on it or not, it matters whether or not he can quarterback and offense against one of the best and fastest defenses in the NFL which clearly he couldn't do with the injury.. there's no point in being 'tough' and going out there and dooming your team all while risking making it significantly worse

You miss my point...
In the future Chicago fans will boil this whole thing down to "Cutler Quit". It's not fair but that's how the legend will go. Fathers and sons will not discuss the nuances of Level II MCL sprains they'll just say Cutler stepped aside and let the emergency quarterback handle the second half and gave the NFC Championship to the Packers. Cutler will be branded with this incident for the rest of his career. Fair or not.
Horrible analogy. HG already had won the 10,000 in Atlanta. So do you think that everyone who doesn't double back with the 2 hardest track events is a quitter? If he didn't even attempt to run either the 5K or 10K due to blisters, then, yes, he should be lit up. However, I don't think you can compare a team sport with an individual sport in this context. It's a lot easier to get by in a team sport at less than 100% (probably every guy out there was at less than 100%).
BTW, Brees played 6 weeks this year with a sprained MCL. No complaining. No excuses. He put a brace on and I assumed got shot up. He's a baller. Cutler is not.
Preposterous idea, I know, but has anyone considered that maybe Lovie Smith needed an excuse to bench Cutler since the Bears were down two touchdowns and he was ineffective in any event? Once Cutler starts having a bad game, it usually only gets worse. He's a serious head case, even without the concussion. And while I think the media has jumped all over this guy, he doesn't help his cause moping around likes he's always done.
Anyway, good thing he went out or the score would've been more lopsided in GB's favor. GB was the better team. They are healthy now.

Wrong wrong wrong. What makes Chicago a great sports town is that we accept and forgive our stars, no matter how imperfect they are. Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Bob Probert, even Brian Urlacher. I guarantee that this whole episode becomes a footnote in Cutler's career. It will not define him.
I'm so tough I'd have to be decapitated for them to take me out of the game!!! Look at how tough I am guys!

Are you a woman? Your pathetic marathon times lead me to believe you are.
Newsflash, running with a stress fracture is STUPID. You're not tough, you're STUPID. We had some moron try to get through our conference 10000 with a stress fracture and our coach pulled him off the track because it was embarassing.
Finishing a marathon in 3ohf***ing6 with excruciating knee pain is not tough, it's STUPID.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
