Two of my good friends, who were both college milers, just named their first son "Quenton" after Quenton Cassidy from Once a Runner. I think it's a great idea, but how common is it? Do lots of runners name their sons "Quenton" (or their daughters "Cassidy," for that matter)?
Why is it "gay" to name your some Quenton? It's a name. You confuse me. You must not be a very tolerant person. That's not very smart of you.

Most average people will associate it with Quentin Tarantino.
Sounds cool enough to me. To answer your question, I've never met anyone with that name. I doubt it's that common.

OAR was a favorite book of both my wife and I. We decided that if our first child was a boy, he would be named Quenton, and if a girl, she would be named Cassidy. Quenton joined our family a decade ago. Followed a few years later by Parker.
The spelling of Quenton in the book is a non-traditional way, as Quentin and Quinton are more common. Thus, everyone seems to misspell my son's name, not that it is a huge issue for him. He actually really likes the name, and I think he feels that it is unique compared to the other kid in his class, especially when combined with his last name.
Both kids know where the inspiration for their names came from, though they have not read the book yet. Perhaps when they are older. While it would be great if they grew up to enjoy running, we make sure they know that the main thing is to just pursue an active lifestyle.
Quenton isn't a bad name, but naming someone for Once a Runner is pretty bad.
Naming children for characters or in a book is probably the most common influence for baby names aside from family members. Not everyone must share the same taste in literature.
If you're going to name your kid "Quentin," at least spell it right. "Quenton" is just ignorant.
Why not go ahead and name your kid "Kwintun" or "Casudee" instead? Or how about "Petur" or "Mikul"?
Why? Give a reason. Not "it's gay" If they never read the book and named their child Quenton would you have a problem? If so, why have a problem when someone gives their child a normal name?
