The thread has been restored and since we said we'd allow one thread on this subject matter we'll be deleting the other thread that was started.
Once again as always if you have problems with posts in the thread you can use the "Report a Post" feature.
Kevin52, you are quite correct--I have not read the entire thread, although it might make interesting recreational reading.
As to your last response, "cutting the course" with him, if in fact that is what he does, would be the entire purpose of running with him. It would be even better, of course, if more than one person ran with him the entire way.
If he were to switch to another mode of transportation that was unavailable to his followers, that could be observed and even recorded.
Has he been shadowed, and if not, why not? Developing an historical record of facts that may constitute circumstantial evidence is one thing, but gathering direct evidence in real time is quite another, and is always more compelling.
It's a near impossibility that anyone would spot him at the beginning of the race. If we know his #, it would be hidden--as are many runners at the start of races--with garbage bags throwaway shirts, etc. If he doesnt want anyone running with him, its doubtful anyone would detect him early on.
You have a good chance detecting him if you hang near the finish line a bit before the 3 hour mark..but thats about it.
With all the scrutiny now. I think if he runs Boston, he'd run it legit. The only other chance that he cheats is if he enters a race last minute before a well conceived plan to follow him is implemented.
Commentator, being an attorney, you do realize that a person can be convicted based on circumstantial evidence, don't you? And I would venture to guess that 99.99% of the people who have read this thread would convict Kip in 5 seconds.
By the way, your original post on page is incredibly pompous and I have no idea (nor do I care) the point you were trying to make.
(Being an attorney, and also a scientist (mech. eng. and environmental science, was involved in biomedical research for years), I would caution non-attorneys, especially Ouch1000, to not try to reach their own conclusions concerning matters of law without the benefit of legal counsel. Despite possible popular image to the contrary, our legal system is not the systematic, methodical, rational, and compartmentalized exercise that is "science". It took me years to understand and finally accept this. Trust me, you will get burned by trying to apply a scientific paradigm to "legal" issues.")

Friend, we're WAY, WAY ahead of you here. Except for 2 or 3 of Kip's many races, we weren't aware he was going to or planned to run/compete (duathlon too). In one instance where we were aware of his planned participation, he switched from the marathon to half after learning he'd be tailed and the other he said he got hurt before it. I'd suggest you read the entire thread. Be prepared to go, 'Damn, that guy's got balls!'

I could totally see Maxim picking this story up though.
Thank-you, scotth. Although I'm only a recreational runner and visit this site mostly for injury advice, I find the allegations of malfeasance interesting.

The Kipster hasn't raced since the sh1t hit the fan about a year ago.
As I said...and many didn't believe, he will make money off of this.
ScottH is very smart and knows more than most, but the market WILL pay him as many are interested.
Honestly, I am from Michigan and have read much of the thread and participated in some, but I could care less about "buying" a magazine or seeing a story about it as he's alledgedly cheated many, many times. When he knows people know about a race, he's injured. If he thinks he's being tailed, he can just drop out. No mystery here.
While perusing Facebook, I found that there is now a Study of Kip Litton page. The collection of celebrity runners is a veritable who's who of distance running (Goucher, Hall, Acosta, Abdirahm, Lindgren, et al). This guy's story has piqued the collective consciousness of the masses.
I dont think those professional runners are all that interested in it but rather that the study of kip litton account friended them
I wonder who will play The Kipster in the forthcoming movie

True, but the magazine that the article is coming out in is not a running magazine. The good thing about that is maybe a major media network could pick up on it... or at least his local stations. Talk about embarrassing for the guy.
The sad thing about all this, after talking to a few of the RDs who have DQed him, it really sounds like embarrassment is not going to stop this guy. He can race under a different name, or just go to other races.
But like others have said, the key is getting the story out there, maybe race directors then will just not allow him to register in their marathons.

I came to the same conclusion a while ago. He's told me he plans to continue his running/fund raising ways. But, after the story is published, whether he can muster the gall to keep showing up is hazy. I say he won't.
It looks like, based on these numbers, that it is the elderly who are reading magazines. It's not until #12 that the Gamers get some acknowledgment. The "Gentelmen" who read Playboy and Maxim need to increase their numbers or the days of hard copy girlie magazines will be gone.

Even more interesting is that he recently registered for the Zoom Yah Yah Marathon in Minnesota on Jan 8. For those who don't know, this race is entirely on an INDOOR track! There are less than 50 entrants- need I say more? Do we have any LRs that live in the MSP area?
This is gonna be good...
I have previously corresponded with the race director of Zoom Yah Yah and I sent him an email tonight asking whether Litton is in fact registered for the 2012 race and also a link to the Study of Kip Litton web site.
Thanks for reaching out the RD AlmostBQ - this sounds strange to me. I have some friends who have run Zoom Ya Ya and it's a lotto... not too friendly for someone to be "just registering" for in my book.
Per marathonguide.com: We will have a lottery again for 2012. Registration forms must be received by 8/31/2011.

That said, even if he is in it, I've competed in some 1 hour runs w my local track club. Even with a personal lap counter and the best intentions, its a lot of work to keep track of laps over the course of the hour. And although I had a general idea of who was moving LOTS faster and LOTS slower than me, no way I was keeping track of anyone elses specific lap count.
And this was just an hour.
Keeping track of laps over the course of a marathon... get a friend who rounds up as your lap counter, and you could probably pull off a sub-3 fairly easily. ;)

ScottH,
If you dont mind us asking, can you tell people reading this thread if the article is still going to come out eventually (like in less than 1 year) even if its writer isn't able to get Kip to "come out?" Thanks!
