Dealt with PF for about a year. Nothing the doctor recommended helped. In frustration, I gave up on doing the stretching, pulling on the toes, wearing the sock, etc.
To reduce the pain before getting out of bed in the morning I started putting my feet against the headboard so that my feet relative to my legs were at a 90 degree angle. After five minutes or so I could get out of bed and walk with no pain.
I also noticed that the pain would completely dissipate if I point my feet outward, thus reducing the strain on my plantar fascia, Achilles tendon and calf muscle. I started doing that several times idea while sitting at work.
Within a month the PF pain was completely gone.
My theory is that the PF tendons are already inflamed. By stretching tendons when bending the toes upward toward the leg, as recommended by every doctor, the tendons are just getting re-damaged. Tendons cannot be lengthened by stretching. They are attached to bones. So straining by pulling them away from the bone merely sustains and causes injury.
Good luck. Your mileage may vary.
