Now a track with a loopty-loop is what I'd like to see! Runners would have to run the loop at sub-X pace, or risk falling upside down, lol,

It would make an interesting steeple with a barrier at the crest.
Haha! The perfect blending of magical realism and track and field. Although if this was truly a magical realist track, the hill would only appear sometimes, depending on when you looked at it.

That could prove more expensive as far as construction costs.
As long as we are all being such silly bunts and not sure if we paid for an argument or abuse, I'll throw my idea in the fray:
A figure 8 track. No slowing down to avoid collisions. Just imagine the 10,000m. Long jump/triple jump runway will cross in front of shot put circle. And of course there will be a marathon for the incontinent.
If the hill was steeper it could serve a purpose for hill workouts. Which would be awesome, but that hill is so gradual - I don't see what purpose it serves at all other than being unique.
Unique waste of Mondo.
The uphill side of that thing is going to get munched up pretty quickly if people are using spikes on it.

Did you get elected as their leader, or is Moron Pride Day the first day after a lunar eclipse?

I don't know, maybe you could tell me. I was looking at the pictures but didn't really bother to scroll down. To me, it looked like California, so get off my back.
My ileo tibial band hurts just looking at that track.
Clarence Darrow once called William Jennings Bryant the "idol of all Morondom." Kinda funny.

If one is building a track with a hill in it, I doubt they are that interested in standard distances for races. But a hill on the inside would also screw up the field events. One of the pics had a layout of the throws and jumps. http://www.architizer.com/en_us/projects/pictures/3d-athletics-track/14695/112873/
I'm not sure why they needed like 6 lanes on it... unless they were planning on running a lane race in it, like the 400?

Hey Wejo,
I've been emailing you guys about the D1 prediction contest prize since Sunday like you asked me to, but I haven't gotten a response. What gives?
Check your email. Sorry I wasn't checking the main letsrun email over the weekend.
Interesting.
This must of cost a pretty penny. But it looks like they deviated from their orginal plan - no pole vault runways. They limited their ability to host meets by not filling in the two "D" zones with rubber. This is probably just a good recreation facility. I would have used the money needed for the hill and built an IAAF class I track with 8 lanes.
But it is cool.
Let's run the 110 hurdles up the hill!
They should concentrate their efforts on skate parks.
Lets be realistic here, Spain should not be spending its money on any athletic facilities right now.
Maybe the hill is like a runaway truck ramp to keep super fast runners from flying off the track.
Finally, something to make the 100 meter dash interesting
you should how to run properly.I remember seeing a track with a hill in Jack Daniels' book? It was at altitude too, near Lake Tahoe

Interested except I run on an indoor track with a hill now. Was built that way so the when coming past the entrance, runners don't collide with people entering. But unlike this one it dips first then rises to come back to floor level. Brutal workout and about 6 laps to the mile. The bad: a thin layer or rubber, about 1/4 laid on top of concrete. ouch
Runner 1: Hey I broke 5 minutes in the mile.
Runner 2: BFD.
Runner 1: But the track had a hill.
Runner 2: Right...
FYI, here's a track with a hill in it.
