Does he even have a shot at qualifying for the Olympic Marathon Trials? He's been hurt for so long, living off of times from 3+ years ago.

He's not living off a time from 3+ years ago. He's living in the present, training hard every day despite being injured. You and other haters are living off his times from 3+ years ago. Read his blog and quit hating.... Tool.
I take back the "Tool" comment, but I'll stand by everything else I said.
from what i gather fitness-wise Nate's very capable of OT qualifying. problem is structurally - he's said plenty of times in his blog he's in better shape than ever in some ways but he cannot race a marathon at this time (hammy and other stuff)...
His training blog is inspirational.
How does the resurfaced track feel? No more dead spots?
Feels good. No more dead spots.
Why is Nate an inspiration? Are you freaking kidding me? He's too big to run that fast that long (much less to train that much,) he was too slow in college to ever have an improvement curve that would take him close to 2:20 in the marathon much less 2:13. He does all sorts of things "wrong" according to all you armchair experts, yet he's worked and worked and worked and more than anyone I've ever seen around these parts, he'll be able to look back on the peak years of his physical being knowing he left it all out there. Seriously, have you ever seen his face when he's racing? If I looked like that I'd run at least 30 seconds faster in a 5k, but I'd have to throw out my shorts after every race.
On top of it all, he's as nice a guy as you'll meet and he's also one of those guys who doesn't seem to afraid to show a little humility, a little goofiness.
Is he Olympic material? Of course not, and that's hardly the point. The point is that he's a self-coached, self-motivated man who loves running and wants to find out more than anything exactly how far he can take his body and mind with a combination of scientific knowledge, "interesting" experimentation (but who am I to say?) and a belly full of fire.
Used to be that's what runners respected. Now guys like that are just called "total clowns" by idiots who probably work their vast mental trophy case of running accomplishments 5 times into the first 10 minutes of conversation on any date they go on so the chick won't notice later on what pathetic, shallow, tiny-membered, boy-band, vacuous posers they are.
I like Nate. Dammit, I'd vote for Nate.
I second this:
Nate is a great guy, an inspiration many of us in the sport. How many people can say they were top 10 in a US Olympic Trials? His high school PRs were like 2:05 and 4:35!
anyone have a link to the results from this meet?
I don't know about nice. I tried to congratulate him after a local race. He blew me off. Struck me as bit of a dick.
Wow this is much better than his time last year (5:08, if I remember properly)! He must be taking venom or some thing from the rattlesnakes he runs on all the time!
You know who else is self coached? Ryan Hall. LOL.
thanks bro...or brodette.

According to the results, that was Jenkins Nate and NOT Nate Jenkins. Sorry.

So you're saying that if I make an ugly face and sh*t myself at the end of a race I will PR by 30 seconds?
...Why does his face have anything to do with how much you respect him? You think that just because he looks ugly when he races he's working any harder than the 60 year old guys out there running 6'/mile?
So just because Bekele can finish a race looking like a G, it means that Nate Jenkins is working harder than him to run 4:14 in the mile? Come on man, you can't really believe that.

Him being self-coached is a personal decision as he has said many times. Not that there is anything wrong with that but it's not like he is unable to receive outside coaching. Because he chooses to be coached by himself make him more 'heroic' to you? I mean he's probably the only poor distance runner, working his ass off, trying to get better, living a less-than-luxurious lifestyle, in America
....oh wait
Nate Jenkins is the Eli Porter of marathoning.
Olympic Trials?! Olympic Trials?! I just hope he can win a race! Talkin' bout Olympic Trials...
