If all you knew about someone was that they won TWO FLCCCs and ran 3:59 and 8:29 in HS, but you knew a lot about running, you would think that this guy must have run 7:28 / 12:52 / 26:40. Hard to believe how little he accomplished after quitting running.
So we are calling everyone a failure who got into a life changing accident? He was running fast enough to be successful in college with no improvement.
Agreed. Olympics are more prestigious than World Championships, but winning a World Championship medal is far more impressive than qualifying to the Olympics. The only difference is the year really.

And if you think that those two things are statistically equivalent you are very wrong. Verzbicas certainly was one of the best HS runners ever but he is in a reasonable sized group for that honor. However, those times you quote would make someone the best american distance runner ever as all three are at or under the AR. Now, he certainly did not have the post HS career I am sure he any many expected but there are a lot of reasons for that - and that is why there are no sure things in running.
2005 17:05 Jordan Hasay 9 WE Mission College Prep Arroyo Grande CA San Diego, CA
2006 17:29 Kathy Kroeger 10 SO Independence H.S. Franklin TN San Diego, CA
2007 17:20 Ashley Brasovan 11 SO Wellington H.S. West Palm Beach FL San Diego, CA
2008 17:22 Jordan Hasay 12 WE Mission College Prep. Arroyo Grande CA San Diego, CA
2009 17:07 Megan Goethals 12 MW Rochester MI San Diego, CA
Without knowing more about these races, Hasay winning in 2005 and 2008 seems remarkable. A handful of people won two titles, but I suppose she's the youngest winner. Was she close in 2006 and 2007?
Can anyone confirm this? Maybe being an Applebee's manager pays better and I higher on culinary arts food chain than I think? Maybe he's coaching on the side? I just cant imagine somebody going from Footlocker champ to "You can put them at table 7, and remind them of the drink specials, or they're free."

if you look up matthew withrow on linkedin, he is actually an account manager for Adidas. It's definitely him because it looks like him and he has track/field stuff listed in activities.
He also currently a volunteer track coach at Madison High School.
Here's the list of all the past winners, boys and girls. How'd each fare afterwards? What % did something? A really interesting experiment might be to compare the post high school careers of those that won to those that finished last in the meet. Was there a difference?
