It is hard to say. That 5k is almost 2 years old and he was injured for most of the track season last year. He still ran a faster mile than guys like Kennedy and Ritzenheim did. Maybe he stepped up his training (and stayed healthy) and is not a 13:40 guy which would be top 10. Or maybe he is just a 14:10 guy. No way to really tell.

THIS YEAR Lucas probably would have been between 15th and 40th. He has run 4:04 and 14:19 (I believe.) I assume he is in about 14:00 5k shape right now, which puts him in the top 40 conversation for sure. But, no way he is top-10. Those guys are good.
He ran a 14:5x high is I recall at NXN regionals which is held on the NCAA nationals course.... doubt he would have broken 30
A qualifying race he won 50ms isn't the best measurement. Was Wheating potential the 3:37 in qualifying or the 3:30 he ran in a competitive race?

If Lucas participated in this years NCAA in the same form he did at NXN and Footlocker, he would
with a *perfect run top 7 - 15th
average run 25 - 35th
*everything just clicks right for you on those days
NAHHHHHH, JK, JK LAWLZZZ
They suck
it doesn't really matter because in less than a year he'll have raped ncaa nationals for real instead of hypothetically

Don't believe that he has the conditioning level/distance training to go hard for 10k, especially in XC.
He would never have made it in to the top 50. The kid is a great runner and will be an NCAA xc champ some day but that will be a few years. My guess his junior year his sophomore year at the earliest.
...word up Bekele, Wanjiru & company LUKAS is coming!
p.s. The I. O. C. just as well hand out the 5, 10K & Marathon medals to the kid now & save everyone's time!
Maybe top 50 on a great day, meaning just under 50. 10 K would be too long for him this fall
Easily top 10. The kid is a beast!
He's been injured a couple of times in high school, and according to the interviews he gave after either NXN or FL this year, he typically runs in the "30s" (miles per week), except for XC training where he might get up to 50s. This says two things to me: might not be real durable, and puts up some great times for only running as much as I do.
I'd guess that somewhere after 7k or 8k in a fast or hard race he will start to rue the lack of base. But if he concentrates on running from here on out and gets up to the range of milage that the top NCAA guys do, who knows ...?

You don't win a 5k on the same course alone or with kids in 14:53 then split 30-40 seconds faster for your first half 14:20-14:30 and place at NCAA's sorry it wasn't happening this year
Lukas would have finished one place behind German because German is all Universe and has won the thing every year since he was a freshman.
The guy probably does 2-3 hours of aerobic exercise on the bike and swimming. I wouldn't be too concerned about the lack of base. He also also used to races that last over 15 min.LV is in the range of a 28:40-29:30 10k guy. If he is at the upper end of that range he might be top 10. At the lower end he is closer to 75.
