Unreal how truly awful these people are.
Unreal how truly awful these people are.
The interesting thing is that Rev. Fred Phelps was on the cutting edge of the civil rights movement as a lawyer in the 60's and 70's, advocating for the oppressed and disenfranchised. I think he is actually, secretly, an avant-garde liberal, gay-rights activist who has created his "movement" as a "performance-art" project to push people's buttons and get a reaction.

Brilliant!
His followers would be disappointed to find that out!

I sure hope so. Otherwise, that would mean actually believed the stuff he was saying.
Not as awful as Edward's scumbag husband.
Phelps is just another loony democrat.

Really? You're saying that her husband, who we all agree has serious faults, is worse than Phelps and his "congregation"? You are as big of a POS as the Westboro Baptist Church members.
The vindictive part of me wants a lot of folks to show up at Phelps' funeral and protest the hell out of it.
I believe in freedom of religion and freedom of speech (neither as absolutes), but with those rights comes responsibility and discretion.

You just want to smash Phelps' face in, but the best way to deal with these nut jobs would be to cut them off from society without violating any of their rights.
It would be great if every grocery store, gas station, bank, any and all commercial outlets all independently invoked their right to refuse service and didn't do business with anyone associated with the church. You couldn't deny them access to public utilities or roads, but it could become completely impractical to survive in society (meaning not living off their own land) if every business around them all independently refused their money.
Talk of Phelps' "followers" amuses me. Outside of his family, he's got about six followers.
You missed this on the same page.
