Staycation. I hate travelling.
A friend of mine just did South America (Buenos Aires, Machu Picchu, the salt flats in Bolivia, Brazil) for 6 months and had the most amazing time.
You could also be a little hardcore and do India, Nepal (the Annapurna Circuit is a great hiking trail), Bhutan, Laos, Vietnam... all fantastic countries to visit and beautiful beaches.
I would get a long term rental car and thoroughly explore Italy - from the alps to sicilia, not missing sardinia.
You just can't go wrong in Italy - the most beautiful mountains and people and cars and food and sea and...
and october is the best time.

on the low-priced end, 6 weeks in SE asia - some combination of vietnam, laos, cambodia and thailand, with the potential of tacking on a few days in singapore or hong kong or somewhere in southern china - could be good; india would be another option in this price range
in the middle range - south and central america offer many options - 6 weeks would allow for a leisurely paced trip around argentina, or perhaps a combination of 3-4 weeks in argentina and 2-3 weeks somewhere else - peru, colombia, etc; eastern europe or turkey or parts of the middle east - egypt, jordan, lebanon, syria, turkey - could be options in this price range too
on the more expensive end, perhaps a safari focused trip to southern africa - the website go2africa.com has a fair amount of information - you could take part in an overland, camping safari for 3-4 weeks, or you could spend more money on the luxury style safaris for less time, perhaps 2 weeks, and combine it with exploration of south africa, namibia, etc. or you could do something similar in rwanda, uganda, kenya or tanzania and spend time exploring ethiopia or egypt in addition.
What Holiday lasts 6 weeks?
