How Many World Records Have You Seen?

I found a mistake.

Saw Geb break the half at PF Changs Phoenix in like '06 or so. Pretty exciting to watch the race b/c you knew he was going for it the entire time.

I saw Defar set a "World Best" in the indoor 2-mile at Boston Indoor in January of 08. The IAAF doesn't recognize it as a world record, of course, since it's the indoor deuce, but she ran about 9:10 and it was pretty cool regardless.

I saw Brahim Boulami's 7:55 Steeple in Brussels in 2001. I shook his hand during the victory lap as well, but now we all know that he was up to no good.

In that same meet I saw El Guerrouj and Lagat run 3:26, with Hicham coming within 0.13 seconds of his WR. Best race that I have ever seen. El Guerrouj had the most amazing relaxed stride of any distance runner in the world. Poetry in motion defined.

Saw Defar's 14:24.53 in 2006 at the Reebok Grand Prix. The stands had nearly cleared out and I was able to lean over the fence right at the finish line. As a male college runner at the time, I was simultaneously thrilled to see such a performance and dejected to realize that I was almost a minute behind her mark. It was fun though and it is crazy to see how much the record has dropped since then.

I've seen numerous since then, but first world record witnessed was Dave Roberts in the pole vault 5.70m on June 22, 1976 in Eugene at the Olympic Trials, and the first WR on the track I saw in person was Henry Rono's 8:05.4 on May 13, 1978 at Husky Stadium in Seattle.

I was at that meet the first 2 days but was running out of money so I headed back to Alamosa where I was going to start school in a couple months. I believe there were a couple other relay world records set that day too and I missed them all!! I remember on friday or saturday standing right beside Lynn Swan who was reporting for one of the broadcast networks. I couldn't believe how small he was for being a great NFL wide receiver. He wasn't much bigger than me and I was about 125 lbs.

I also saw bolt's 9.58 and 19.19 in person in berlin. Don't think I've seen any other world records but I've seen at least one AR in person as well.

I saw Usain Bolt's 9.58 in Berlin.

Absolutely amazing! I remember having a 20min long conversation in the best German I could muster up with locals on the U-Bahn ride home. Everyone on the train returning from Olympia Stadion was talking about the race.

I saw an attempt at a master's world record in the pole vault...

Zero. Although I saw both Shalane and Solinsky set the AR in thw 10k! That was so exciting I had trouble sleeping that night.I almost felt like I had set the record myself!

I stood up and knew a record attempt was about to happen.

Pietro Mennea's record stood for 17 years and you knew it was going down that day.

Mike Marsh missed by .01 four years earlier in an eased up semi but got a head-wind in the final.

I thought the 19.32 was a clock malfunction, also.

17 years to shave .06 s and two months to shave another .34 s, .40 in total.

Saw literally over 50 in the years between 2006 and 2009. I am a swimming fan and those suits did amazing things. Seemed like it was a bad swim if a WR wasn't broken.
