Being a Marine from 1975 to 1979 I had to honor those brave souls who died on this date 69 years ago today. May their souls rest forever.

Yes a lot of people died, most of them salors and soldiers and it started a terrible war.
But we did punish the attackers by killing millions of japs in Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and the firebombings of Osaka and Tokyo, many of the people we killed were women and children.
Not saying they wouldn't have done the same to us, but war is a horrible thing when it comes to that.
Since you defended America how do you feel about stories like this:
You think the media will talk about this? You think a judge will do anything to stop it? Is this the America you defended?
You are proof that affirmative action has failed.
Millions? Come on, man. Four months after the bombings, only about 250,000 were dead. Sure, the radiation has killed more since then, but to say millions, as in multiple million, is a sympathetic exageration.
And I wouldn't get too sympathetic either. The Japanese were warned and given many chances to surrender, yet they stubbornly declined. Then the U.S. dropped the bomb. Then they were AGAIN given the chance to surrender. Nope. Still not going for it. So they got another.
War is terrible for everyone, but if you condemn these bombings, perhaps you had a better suggestion?

Yup, I and millions of others served so that you are free to post your opinion with out retaliation. So go ahead and post what you what with out fear.
500k-1 million Japanese Civilians died in the bombings in mainland Japan.
Several hundred thousand more died in the Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and Marianas campaigns.
By Comparison 6 million Jews died in the Holocaust in Germany yet they have a Museum in America.
Roughly 1/6 as many civilians died as Jews in the Holocaust and they have no Musuem or memorial outside their country.
Good point Oldoldrunner,
Your generation gave me my freedom, and I'll have to earn the freedom for the next generation.
If that means closing down the banks, and arresting all the millionaires and billionaires that have defrauded America and targeted minorities and undermined our legal and justice system as well as our government then so be it.
Freedom isn't free.
It's a shame that they died for nothing. The Euro/US/Can rape of Asia lasted from the 1500s to April 30, 1975 when the Army of North Vietnam and the Viet Cong, militarily defeated the United States. The US abandoned 10,000 soldiers in battle in one of the most cowardly defeats in military history. Certainly the most cowardly in the history of warfare in East Asia. What a waste of lives. 500 years of war for nothing. Asia won anyways and is very prosperous today, thank you very much ;-)
The US murdered 25 million in South East Asia. The French murdered 3 million. European Imperialists murder 5 million in China. Japan murdered 10 million Chinese. The UK, US and Russia/USSR, China murdered the most people in history. But that's the past. We can't relive the past nor get angry about it. China has shadow puppets in the USA who own Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Nike, and Sears. China Rules the World !
The US colonized and raped Hawaii in the 1800s. 100 years later in the 1950s, Japanese took control of Hawaii. The governor, both senators, and every congressman was Japanese. In the 1980s, the Hawaiians took back control of the islands even though Asians number 70% of the population and the Japanese own the economy. Now we live together as brothers and sisters. No hard feelings. Mahalo.
Listen, don't mention the war.
I mentioned it once but I think I got away with it alright.
U wundent never no Marine, fool. Cuz Marines are Marines til the day they die, an u saying u waz a Marine for only 4. U a troll, and a liar.
This thread is unbelievable, full of cowards hiding behind anonymity and ignorance.
To the OP’s point; December 7, 1941 is a date that will live in infamy, and an event we must always remember. The U.S. was attacked by a dangerous enemy on that day. Our brave men and women fought that enemy over the next 3.5 yrs and defeated them. Thank you for that. And thank you OP for your service.
Cry me a river. The US attacked Japan 1st by shelling Tokyo and other cities to force a trade agreement in the 1860s. The US raped China, Phillipines. The British, Germans, French raped Asia 1st and the US was tagalongs but the US was equally guilty. Now that Asia is free from White imperialism we can all be chipper and goofy about it as we sit in class and sip coffee at the student union afterwards. But we remember and will never forget that our grandparents and ancestors didn't have it so easy and had to fight for 500 years to free Asia from the US and European White Inmperialists.
