One of my friends wants to copy off of my for our final that is coming up. They have already said they want to eat with me before (and cornered me into saying yes) and then go take our final and they will sit next to me etc. I don't want to give them the answers I studied hard for... but I don't know how to be assertive about it/how to go about it in a non-offending matter. What do I do?

Tell him you don't want to risk getting caught. Look up your schools policy on cheating and then make up some horror story to tell your friend and say you don't want to risk it. Offer to help him study before and then don't sit by him when you go into the classroom.
Professors watch, it is very easy to notice this type of thing and he will likely get caught. If the professor is a dick and thinks you werent covering your paper you could get drawn into it.
If you are really worried but can't confront him then make up an excuse for not meeting him before, then show up to the exam late so you don't have to sit next to him.

I had to take exams under an honor code while I was in college. If I had let someone cheat off of my test, I could have been expelled, too.
This person is asking you to put your academic reputation at risk. They are not your friend if they insist on this. You should be offended already. I wouldn't worry about offending this person.
^this. Your "friend" is a tool. If you are smart, you will tell him to get lost, and sit nowhere near him during the test. If by some unavoidable circumstances you must sit next to him, tell the professor exactly what is going on and request a seat change. Believe me, if there is one non-criminal offense at college that will get you kicked out almost immediately, it is being involved in some form of academic dishonesty. Don't be a part of that.

Just claim you're gonna crap your pants, take as long as possible in the bathroom, and when you get to the test, there won't be two seats next to each other.
let him chaet off and do forget to show him ur work not only the answers on the multiple choices :)
Just be a good friend and let him cheat off of you. He isn't going to be copying shit down verbatum, just checking equations, dates, final answers etc. He can draw his own Freebody Diagrams.
This guy is trying to use you. Don't feel bad about telling him to f*** off.
Regardless of how you feel about cheating in a moral sense, he is expecting you to take a big risk for no payoff. There are only two possible outcomes for you. You can get caught, or not. If you get caught, you are just as screwed as him. If you don't get caught, what have you gained from helping him? Nothing. The best outcome you can hope for if you cheat is the same outcome that you will get from not cheating. Why take the risk?
For most of my finals in college the seating was staggered in order to prevent this sort of thing. If that isn't the case for this final, go with the about to poop in your pants thing.
What's with people telling you to let him cheat? No freaking way brother! And, this request is enough to make you consider whether he should be your friend anymore. Integrity must stand for something.
