Has anyone had lateral heel pain alongside or after having pain in the peroneal tendon? My peroneal pain was not really under the ankle, but behind and sort of above, in the soft concave spot between ankle, achilles, and top of the calcaneus (heel bone). I took two weeks off and did a lot of strength exercises (calf raises and ankle work with a band), and that soft concave spot doesn't hurt anymore, but I've got another relatively mild, nagging pain/irritation on the lateral side of my heel, towards the back but not on the back of the heel, just above the soft pad part of the foot.
I'm not sure if this is some sort of bursitis or what. It's not near the achilles insertion, so it isn't retrocalcaneal bursitis, but possibly some other sort of calcaneal bursitis? I have suspected my new running shoes, which have those really stiff heel counters that sort of point in to your heel/foot. I hate those, and as usual I am stupid for ordering shoes online. Another thought: is it possible I caused this new pain by working the ankle band exercises too aggressively?
Any thoughts of what this might be or what I should do? I have relatively high arches and typically run in neutral cushioned shoes or heavier "performance" shoes (9-11 oz.).
And if you like making these informal diagnoses but need more info from me,let me know.
