You have black marks on your credit report from library fines? I am calling BS on this.
When I re-joined the Seattle Public Library, they somehow mistyped my mailing address. I checked out a book and did not return it for a long time, thinking I would just pay the fines when I got a chance. I got one email notice saying I had a late book, and that was it.
Well after a few weeks, they marked it as lost and tried to mail me something, which I obviously never got. It was returned to the library and marked on my account that it was an incorrect address. No attempt was made to call or email me despite them knowing they had a bad mailing address.
Instead they sent it to a collections agency, who also made no attempt to call or email me. Just googling my name would have at least turned up a PO Box. Obviously not a very good collections agency!
Anyway, I only found out about it when I went to check my credit report a few months later. I was soooo pissed. I went to the local library, paid my fines, they reported to the collection agency that my fines were paid. I reported to the credit agencies that they had not attempted to contact me or something like that. At some point it disappeared from my credit report, because it's not on there now.
So yes, at one point, I had black marks on my credit because of library fines :/
