Long-time reader, looking to crowdsource this question. 27yo male, 6'1, 165lbs. Not a runner, and have never been, by which I only mean that I don't go for runs, and have never been a part of a track or xc team. That said, I've played other sports regularly, was a D3 'athlete' (is there such a thing?), and have continued to do something active (hockey, basketball, squash, soccer, lift) 4 or 5 times a week, for anywhere from 30-120 minutes at a time, for the past couple years.
I've had less time and opportunity to do some of those things recently, and have been wanting to push myself, and so on a whim the other day, did a mile time trial. It may have been strictly 1600m, so not quite a mile - couldn't tell where the lines went.
Finished in 5:11, and so my question is - if I continue to play soccer/squash/basketball 2x/week, and add in 2 or 3 runs a week, what do you figure a reasonable time goal would be for me, in 3 mos, 6 mos, a year? Is 4:40 out of the question? Like I said, I'd like to keep the running to 2-3x/week, so please consider that. Thanks!
