CIM cheating?

The goal has switched from running to getting that chip over the line. I guess we should say job well done then? Good for her she did it! It is real tough now a days to get the time in to train properly, it is not really fair that those that do or have the genetics get the trophy. Why should someone get rewarded for genetics?

I think having our friends move the chip over the line for us will be good for the sport of running by making it more fair. Maybe we should ask the fast people to carry it for us?

I don't know if this actually happened, but for these two women to think that it's actually 'OK' to consider this is very sad.

I would think if her friend were to die, she would be doing other things besides grabbing her shoe and running it over the line for a fake finish.

I appreciate her loyalty to her friend, but yes, someone needs to tell her that is indeed cheating.

OK, well if she dies, then it's the most natural response in the world to finish the race with her shoe and chip in her hand, rather than identifying the dead body, accompanying her "friend" to the coroner, calling and consoling family members, etc.

I can see it now:

Q: What you got their sport?

A: My dead friend's shoe. I need some gatorade and a massage, but you can find her dead body at around mile 17 face down in the gutter.

speaking of which, I ran in the Seattle marathon last week and true to form there were lots of people with those belts festooned with bottles. Even though they had people passing out water and gatorade at least every three miles along the course. And at several spots in the second half of the marathon, there were people passing out GU gels.

I wonder how many of them wound up not finishing because their unnecessary bottles had weighed them down too much.

but come on guys how awesome would it be to see her friend die..then to see her snag the left nike off the corpse striding away saying i got yo back sista!!and come on guys can fat nearly 50 year old women really cheat and benefit in any way from it ??

I actually ended up protesting a similar situation, once. Finish line photos indicated that the "winner" of my age group (taking my win) didn't actually finish the race.

Instead, there was a picture of her husband (coincidentally, she and he had identical chip times) crossing the line by himself with two d-tags, one on each foot.

That's pretty interesting actually. And the result of your protest?

As the great Said Aouita once said: Those who say that I will lose and am finished will have to run over my body to beat me (but my friend will have my chip, so you lose anyway!).

I got my award. I first got the wrong award, then protested, and then sent them back the wrong award and waited for the right one.

Took them 10 months to get it to me -- it was a very nice engraved plaque, and they had already sent mine to the "winner", who was in France, so they had to re-order another.

Yes, a pain for them, but in a large race that has a lot of bib-swapping etc (about 3 of the "top 10 women" each year are men), I don't think it's unreasonable for them to be checking finish line photos for the age group winners. Probably about an hour's work.

(and as for why I didn't protest before -- the posted results on Active a day or two after the race had shown that the men who had finished in the "top ten women" had all had their gun times removed -- I thought that meant that they had already caught these guys)

Yup -- this was the same race where they didn't enforce the corrals, and allowed a group of charity runners to line up at the front, and run the race while holding hands. Amazing.

My friends help me all the time, it's just natural.

Soon an chip will be imbedded into Americans at birth (yes, they will be retro-fitted for older citizens). In addition to Social Security, medical, and banking information the chip can be used for voter ID. RD's should latch on to this technology and save the few cents per person for the cost of D-tags (more money can be given to chairty if they do). It should also be used for USATF National Championships to assure only real Americans win.

Grow up. It's called hyperbole.

Nobody has a serious plan to take a dead person's chip over the finish line.
