#3 - Saw him run the 10,000 in 1992 at Tad Gormley in the armpit of hell. Not a young man even then, but right amongst 'em until the end.

3rd, hmmmmm. Alliterative Olympian? Michael Musyoki?

The GOOD: Downhill point to point course.

The BAD: Straight into a strong headwind.

The UGLY: Ukiah is in Northern California on hwy 101. It was really hot right before the race, I made a tactical mistake on the drive down, by taking the scenic route on the coast. There were forest fires the entire way, with smoke and delays making the trip a nightmare. Drove down with two poker players who talked poker gibberish the entire way down. But on race day the weather was perfect, except for the strong headwind. I remember being with the pack for 5 miles then inexplicably lost concentration when the moves were made. McCormack surprised everyone. I remember Shahanga just exploding when we made the final turn.

After the race I warned Ibrahim Hussein I was going to beat him at NYCM. I think he forgot all about my teasing until right at the halfway mark of NY, when I had caught to about 10 yards behind, I bellowed, "EEEE-BRAH-HAM". No response. Then again, "EEE-BRAH-HAM, I'M GONNA GET YOUUU" This time he turned his head with a big grin on his face.

Yes, Shahanga, not Nyambui. My mistake. Sorry Scott.

And Ed Eyestone was third.

btw Janicki got 7th at Columbus that fall. Ken Martin was 9th and Bill Donakowski was 14th, but still ran 2:14:07. Dave Olds was 15th.
