So did Gedyon, who was 2nd last year. Everyone has bad races.
Rosa came in at around 70th place 17:3X. Kid just quit.
This doesn't bode well for the NCAA's. Stanford already has established a pattern of underperforming in the biggest meet of the year. Two years in a row for Jim having a bad race in his biggest race of the year. Who knows if Joe will be a force after major foot surgery.
Heart break from discovering he wasn't a threat to win the title.
not to make excuses and I don't know the kid - or any of the kids for that matter. But running in mud is a different game/skill. I know it was the same conditions for everyone, but imho not every kid physically or mentally is prepared for those kinds of conditions. Feel bad for those guys who finished out their HS career like that. Some of the Jrs and Sophs will have a chance at redemption.
The NXN is a joke and has nothing to do with real running. Cross country was not meant to be a steepechase, it was meant to allow runners and spectators to hit the trails in a natural setting which is mostly what running is all about. It has nothing to do with running through mud and over fake obstructions. Next we will give them 5 pound packs and determine the real national cross country champ.
wait! i thought new jersey was just absolutely amazing and the best?!
Yeah, because giving them five pound packs wouldn't be "fake."
So what ? It was just all all-paid Senior trip to a Chinese Shoe Faire. It's not the IAAF outdoor WC or Summer Olys.
correct. to be the true championship like all the nike honks were saying, at least get a decent couse. maybe some kids will rethink their decisions next year as this seems to happen every other year in portland.

I disagree, chief. Portland Meadows had conditions that none of those kids had faced all year.
Mud, haybales, that BMX dirt section - all guaranteed to disrupt the rythmn (sp) of all runners.
Portland Meadows was by far the most technical x-c course these kids have faced all year.
jeremy elkaim ran 17:26 for 73rd

+1
Next year the Nike Nationals will be held at a corn maze. The best cross country runner who can wear a five pound pack and figure out the maze will win. All teams are required to bring a compass and some climbing ropes.
Actually, Lukas would have won this year anyway. But are your kidding me, is this how we are going to crown the individual national championship in the future?
Keep the Nike for the teams and the Footlocker for the best individual runners in the nation. By the way, why would you be the best team in the nation because you can run in mud?

WTF are you talking about? Thats what "Cross Country" used to be before, as Lydiard put it, it became, "Track meets on grass".
Jumping fences, creeks, other barriers, mud these were all part of "real" cross country.
How many of you guys were bagging on Rupp for races not being "Rupp-Certified?"
Make up your minds folks. They all ran in the same conditions.
you find out who is the best on the track in the spirng , the fall is for cross country
he should make good fit with the Cardinals

He's going to play for St. Louis? Football or baseball? Wow, I thought he was going to run for Stanford next year. What a crazy turn of events!
