that was pretty sweet, have full race footage? and how many laps for a mile on that bad boy?
That's all I got.
160 yards = 11 laps to the mile.
Awesome video, Pre wasn't quite as good as marty over a mile, anyone know if they ever raced over 5k?
Thanks Malmo
Poor quality video of Buerkle vs Pre. 1974 CYO Indoor.
Try this link.
Thanks malmo. I was there in Cole Field House, and seem to remember other CYO meets in that timeframe held in DC somewhere. I was only in elementary school, so it's a little hazy. Does anyone have good information on the history of those indoor CYO meets in MD/DC, or can you point me in the right direction to find? My dad used to bring me to them, and I got hooked on track for life after seeing guys like Liquori, Pre, Dick Buerkle, Dwight Stones, I believe Wottle, Nehemiah, Eamonn Coghlan, but, again, my memory may be embellishing.
I didn't appreciate the talent and grit of Marty in his college days. I musta been somewhere else. My bad as he has obviously proven to be one our all time greats. He was virtually unbeatable when he was at the top of his game and provided us with some memorable races. A great racing mind and strategist.
I heard he would get so focused he would almost forget everything else but training and racing - especially depicted in his 'beard' days.
Great video - I hadn't seen it before.

How was marty ranked ahead of Pre in 1975 when Pre ran the second fastest 5000 in american history right before he died in '75?
pre did not run the 2nd fastest 5000 in his last race.his last race was 13;23 and he ran 13;21 and 13;22 previously.

I think Liquori set the US record in the 5k in the summer of 1975, not entirely sure though. Would have been awesome to see those two go head to head in Europe that summer.

The Nike Koolaid bin never runs out, does it?
Pre ran a race in Bumf***, Oregon, got drunk and died.
Liquori didn't drive like a drunken maniac, therefore he lived to run another day - in Aarhus, Oulu, London, Goteborg, and Stockholm.
nope, in '76, duncan mcdonald ran 13;19 to break pre's 5000 AR
not 100% sure but wrote:

You still didn't answer my question...

Idiot. Pre ran 2 5000s in 1975 against nobody. Liquori was the national champion and ran against everyone in Europe. He was ranked 3rd, Pre was ranked 9th.
He ran against Shorter who had run the second fastest 3 mile in american history - I think that was somebody.
Please enlighten me as to how I am an idiot for asking inquiring about a ranking, go ahead, I'm listening.

WOW, the 2nd fastest 3 miler in American history? Is that like kissing your sister or what?
Liquori was the National Champion and he raced the best runners in the world. Pre raced the "2nd fastest American in the 3 mile". You are an idiot for not understanding the difference.

You said he ran against no one, I proved you wrong. Why are you raging so hard. I asked a question, is it not possible for you to answer without raging at me? I can see now why Letsrun gets the reputation of being all a bunch of immature little kids.
