"Running like a moron?"--Gimme a break. Running fast inherently involves pushing yourself to pain levels that "smart" people never reach.
It is really hard to tell exactly where the line between "as fast as possible" and "too fast" is. I know-- I crossed it once-- in college after years of running. The experience was certainly out of my control. In fact, it pretty much blew my whole season. I just started running really conservatively.
In any case, you seem to think that some little girl should know exactly where her physical limits are. I don't think that it is as easy as you make it out to be.
