The Nike LunarFly Shoe

great shoes. excellent value - u can get them @ finishline.com for $50-60.

i wear them for both training and racing - marathons too. my times suck but the shoes are great. they are light ( about 9 oz ), flexible and stay out of your way. no motion control / stability crap. i am a midfoot striker - i dunno if a heel striker / pronator might have problems - again - no stability / mc crap on this shoe.

i prefer the breathe models - better for warm weather/ indoors.

these might be the BEST nike shoes out there right now- im afraid they (nike) will kill them before people catch on and the lunarfly cannibalizes their other more $$$ shoes in the line ( glide, eclipse, structure, etc ).

good forefoot cushioning - not a firm ride at all - but not too mushy or sloppy either.

Pics of the Lunarfly 2 have been floating around. I cant find em offhand, but they incorporate more Flywire. If I see them, I will post them.

I gave these a shot because I was excited to see the Hayward 3+ upper back (albeit slightly modified), but the heel just felt huge and the upper didnt feel as flexible as the Hayward. Not a terrible shoe, but not what I was looking for. Id be curious to see how the Breathe upper feels.

i tried them on yesterday and decided to purchase the lunarglides instead, felt that my feet would break after two weeks in the lunarflys

Tried them once but didn't like them. HUGE heel. The only Lunarfoam shoe I can tollerate is the Lunaracer.

I loved the Nike run avant. It was my perfect running shoe, and they discontinued it. I got the Lunarfly as a replacement--close, but no cigar. That said, it has worked well enough for me. I am also a midfoot striker. The Lunarfly seems to be more shoe underneath than the Avant. I did run a marathon in them, and they did well enough. I think the lunarfly is a great trainer for a neutral runner, but I am still searching for something that is just a tiny bit less shoe underneath, but not to the degree of a racing flat. any suggestions?

agree with that assessment. ran my last (slow) marathon in the fly, after the using the asics speedstar 2 for a long time.

I tried these on today. I like the concept but again with they had less cushion and heel height. Even with taking the sole out it felt like too much for the need.

I settled on the adidas cc chill & really like them.

I discovered the Avant just in time to fall in love with it before finding out it was discontinued. I managed to find a 2nd pair on Ebay, but now I'm in need of a replacement.

I don't know what to do or where to turn! Have you found anything yet?

if you want a resilient, lightweight trainer and don't have biomechanical issues, the Lunar Fly is the way to go. I know several people who really like them and one gal also uses them as a marathon racer. The best trainer in the Nike Lunar series, in my opinion. I tried the Lunar Glide for a while and they were way too much shoe. They felt like bricks.

I really liked the Lunar Racer 2, but as a trainer. Saved a pair of original Lunaracers to race marathons in and am pretty stoked that they just re-released the original Lunaracers again.

On another bright note, my friend at Nike told me that they are bringing back the Zoom Elite, probably one of my favorite training shoes ever.
