he also was on a 4 x 100 relay team that set the world record. with lennox miller and earl mccullough and i cant think of who the 4th member.
It was actually a 4x110-yard relay, and since even the USA went metric right after, it's still the world record.

He wasn't a runner.........he "ran around" with other women.
Wilt Chamberlain.

So, Thomas and Blago are decent runners, but Dean K runs a sub-3 during his 50 in 50 and people consider him a hack? What am I missing? Seems like a double standard.
The first two - and I'm no fan of theirs, believe me - are famous for non-running reasons. For a random person from the population, in this case a Supreme Court justice, 3:11 is pretty outstanding.
In Dean's case, running is his entire claim to fame. He rubs some runners the wrong way because his fame (due to his running-related self-promotion) seems to exceed his actual running accomplishments.
Many runners are much faster than Dean and much less well known. But they are not on the Supreme Court.

Vincent Furnier was a xc runner in high school and formed a band with his teammates.
He became pretty famous.

Does anyone know of famous people (politicians, actors, writers, musicians.....) who were good runners before they became famous for another reason?
I can only think of Nicholas Sparks. Writer of The Notebook and a bunch of other books that became movies. He was apparently a pretty good 800/miler at Notre Dame before strikin it big with his books.
David Bowie
Bryan Ferry
Alice Cooper
Iggy Pop.
That's just the 70's rock contingent.
Iggy and Alice also played golf from an early age and still do.

Draw your own conclusions.
Actually Kennedy had 0 legislation pass and Ford got little done. Eisenhower was great as a general but as prez he was a racist and tried to limit many things that would come about in the 60's. Give him credit for interstate system and keeping taxes high on uber-rich to pay for everything. Carter had good ideas and accomplished more than Kennedy and Ford by far. Saw nation's ills and called it out but too many not willing to listen.
to list of famous add:
Beyonce was a pretty fair 400/800 runner at age 10-12
Natalie Portman - ran xc and track
Many others but brain too tired from big, long day of great football
Malcolm Gladwell. Very good writer was also a very good junior mid-distance runner growing up in Canada. He probably could have gone pretty far in running but didn't pursue it.
Have yet to hear of a time for Jimmy Carter. Curious to know.
Dexter Holland and Greg Kriesel of the band The Offspring met at Garden Grove High School on the cross country team.
Oliver Reed was a decent runner, regularly ran 10 miles and the originator of the Wimbledon 8

Bruce Dern (the patriot with the hot wife in The Burbs) was a runner. Lots of marathons and even ran a 7 hour 50 miler.
Doyle Brunson
"Carter had good ideas..."
I stopped reading when I got to that. "Good ideas" are the bane of human existence. (Ideas that are good are its salvation.) Ask anyone encumbered with a socialist government and not in the ruling class. Jimmy Carter is nothing more than a racist with socialist ideals.

Dern had some serious talent. He ran 2.03 as a 13-year-old, chronicled in this profile from 2006. It also mentioned that he ran 10 miles in 60 minutes...a solid effort. And, as a masters over 40 ran a 2.12 at the senior olympics.

Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
