Does anybody care to elaborate what this upcoming Foot Locker announcement will be?
- Merger with Nike?
- New set-up/format?
- Ceasing operations?
- Something else?
Thank you.

Rumor is this might be it. Budget issues, sponsorship issues along with declining regional entries are some of things floating around.
You mean all this discussion might be moot? They could be folding? Merging with Nike? Adding a team category and/or bringing on Saucony or ASICS as a sponsor?

The best runners each year go to Footlocker Nationals.

That's interesting. Can anybody confirm/deny/elaborate?
Thank you.
Nothing in store with Nike. No change to format hasn't helped with shrinking regional revenues and escalating costs which are now almost totally borne by FL. When Nike was involved they basically had underwritten the event and minimal cash was invested by FL corporate. Sponsors have backed away due to success of Nike event and unwillingness of FL to consider input from potential sponsors relative to format modifications and specific sponsor branding needs and FL wish to leave things as they are. Current running partner invests minimal cash and mostly product. Nike's previous cash investment with FL was significant six figures plus generous product. Most of this info is common knowledge in the market.
Interesting rumors. With Nike investing heavily in their event, declining FL participants and a Nike event with both individuals and teams would the FL event be missed? Nike probably has the ability to handle additional entries at their regions and possibly increase the number of individual qualifiers. Could this happen and if Nike could make those changes essentially NXN might be able to fill the void.
Horse_ _ _ _. Your apostrophe is certainly misplaced. Certainly this year it is not the case with the boys by all one can read. Girls yes.
Thought this was very relevant-

Again, guys are going NXN, girls are going FL.
Kids just need to worry about loving the sport and running hard.
To quote someone famous, "Just Run Baby".
Im competing in FL South and this is the largest overall field ever. that may just mean there are more in the open or age group races however.

Don't be so stubborn that it starts reflecting stupidity.
On the boys side:
9 of the top 10 ranked runners are running NXN.
Out of those 10, only 3 are running FL (2 are running both).
If you are a guy and running Footlocker, but not NXN, you are most certainly dodging the competition.
The downside with NX is there's no media attention at all. FL has the media in attendance given it's in So Cal. NX is a big dud for news.
I am a big FL fan and I hate to see it go. I am speaking as if it's a done deal that FLNC is done becasue it is definitely done. Perhaps it has already been mentioned, if not, I will be the first to say that this will be the last year of FLNC as we know it. Nike already has the teams and the top athletes will always want to run against the best athletes and this year the momentum is in Nike's direction and these things never shift back.
I am not a big fan of how Nike is shutting down FL, I wished the two companies could have worked together to create what Nike has created. In a year or two H.S. XC will have an NCAA Champ type meet and that's what we all wanted.
I heard Portland Meadows is being sold. Where will NXN be held in 2011 ?
FL is a store that sells many brands of gear. Nike is a mfg of cheap Chinese junk. I don't think it would be smart to merge advertising campaigns. Rather if FL shuts down it's HS XC show then I switch my ad dollars to state XC meets and regional champs. It doesn't make sense to me for FL to have shows with other manufacturers as well. FL job is to brand it's store.
FL Midwest is stacked, both boys and girls. Essentially, everybody who would have a chance to qualify is running FL; the field at NXN was as strong as it has ever been, but there were some guys who skipped it.
