You're saying German couldn't outkick Derrick and Riley, who were right there, even when he wasn't all out? Obviously he was completely tapped out, or we would have seen a decent finish from the 1500m champion.
8th is a very descent finish for a 1500 meter runner. Less decent is a 10,000 meter and cross country specialist only finishing 5 seconds ahead of a 1500 meter runner.
