Stanford loses Elliott Heath, Ok. St. loses no one. Yeah sure Stanford gets the Twins and they’ll be good and help them out right away, but they won’t help Stanford overcome their ability to choke when it counts.
To add on to this, let me say to those who said Dave Smith is ruining German Fernandez, you are wrong. How can you ruin one athlete who’s been a scorer for you all season and still expect to win a team title at nationals? If German wasn’t where he should have been yesterday FSU or Wisconsin would have been the champs. And questioning whether or not German is holding back or he’s not as good as he should be, he’s being a team player. He wanted to stay with his boys in order to make sure they had the title in the bag. If he needed to move up (i.e. if Stanford had three guys with them instead of two), he would have done so and would have challenged Derrick, but since Stanford was already choking at the moment, what’s with the risk in fighting for an individual title and having something go completely wrong (i.e. getting too tired at the end and having a shit load of people behind you pass you with 100m to go).
Final note added, Fernandez is better than Derrick. Yes, Derrick beat Fernandez yesterday, but Fernandez looked like he had a lot more in him. Track will help solve this debate over who’s better.
