If you really want to assess your level of fitness and ability, then incorporate the following workout on a track:
16x400@.60-.62 w/.90 secs rest interval
Once you can accomplish this, then increase to 20x400.
It's a brutal workout, but it will test your metal and you'll know your fitness level/ability absolutely.
