Cal has plenty of international medals in our sport. There's nothing more important than that !

The implementation of title ix is a joke if rugby which seems to be self funded is now funded just as it was before but a "premium club" sport and everyone with title ix is happy. No more opportunities for women or men, just call it something else and it's ok.
The men abd womens track programs have the same coach right? If that's the case that's probably the reason men's track wasn't cut. Not going to save much money.
internally the depts at the top world class unis in the world compete for international accolades, citations, and accomplishments. cal t&f/xc athletes and alums have to produce at the world level else cal t&f/xc will be snuffed out by other depts. cal t&f/xc has done well to bring their program attention at the olys & iaafs.

Go Eli!
The reason baseball was dropped is that it has the highest net cost. Rugby was dropped due to Title IX numbers with its hugh squad.
USC has 42 Olympic Track and Field Gold Medals
USC alums have won 9 MAJOR Men's Marathons. More than any other university in the world.
How many gold medals has UCLA T&F won ?

This is mostly sad because of the incredibly rich history of the program. Does T&F at Cal have much of a history?
Uhh....you DO know who was the first American sub-4 minute miler right?
xc/tnf stayed to maintain some diversity on the campus. if it were to be cut, the black student population would be cut in half. from a pr standpoint, that wouldn't look so good.
The black student population would be cut in half. NOT! That is just stupid.

Allison Stokke should start making porno films and donate part of the money she makes to the Cal Track program.
Any Olympians in the past 20 years? I'd say getting called up to the majors is baseball's equivalent of making an Olympic team, and UC has had several players in the majors in the past 20 years.
Chris Huffins won a Bronze Medal at Summer Olympics
Alysia Johnson won a Gold Medal at IAAF Indoors
So Cal T&F has done it's duty at the world level.

Getting called up to MLB is like running a heat at USA Outdoors / Olympic Trials. Being named to the starting line-up is like making an Olympic T&F or World Outdoor T&F team.
Alysia Johnson
Magdalena Lewy Boulet
Bolota Asmerom
Chris Huffins
Chuck Berkeley (former 400m runner, competed in bobsled)
Yes, there have been Olympians.
Get off of your high horse cowgirl, I look at the stands of televised track and field events - most end up giving tickets away, and there are no butts in seats. "They" can't fill a stadium to half capacity, even when tickets are being given away practically for free. Plenty of people here talk about being advocates, but the reality is that it is BS because you cannot be bothered with purchasing a ticket to a T&F event.

Why would you be posting on LetsRun when you are obviously NOT a track and field advocate?
Just wondering..

Per season/cycle, how many are there on MLB rosters, combined for all teams, and how many T&F Olympians are there, combined for all countries?
I just read that Cal Rugby was still cut for Title IX reasons even though it was fully self-funded and the Rugby Stakeholders OFFERED TO FULLY FUND AN INTERCOLLEGIATE WOMEN'S RUGBY TEAM.
That's right. Cal cut a fully funded program that was willing to fully fund a women's program too, because of Title IX...the point of which is to INCREASE athletic opportunities for women...WAY TO GO CAL!
