Which would be worse, dropping out uninjured, or running 2:12?
I think this is worse, shows no heart.
IMO

I guess Salazar has to go rescue another runner. Unless he blew his engine running that 2:06, its all a mental or training issue.

Hall is done and more than likely will never go under 2:08 again much less under 2:06.
You're a looser! What's your best marathon? How many have you run? Obviously not many.
It is a rare person who can run two high level marathons year after year. It catches up to you and you need to step back for a few months.
Time to use his monster base and crush some good times next year in the 1500-10000.
Has it come to this? wrote:

I wish Ryan Hall well and I have no idea if he will return to the remarkable level of performance that he achieved not long ago.
But this - "You're a looser! What's your best marathon? How many have you run? Obviously not many." Is irrelevant and frankly stupid. Always has been. Always will be.
I think he needs to buy some gold coins and take up residence in a cave in Montana. After the economic apocalypse all that aerobic base will come in handy.
Mammoth's been okay for Meb
So Hall finished 4th at Boston in 2:08, in a race where a new course record was set by more than a minute. Hall was barely over a minute behind 2nd place finisher Kebede.
And now he's "done?" I'd like to be "done" like that.
he needs to do some freaking speed work. race some dang 10ks. you can\\\'t run 4:55 pace for 26.2 if it doesnt feel comfortable. the kenyans run fast because those turkeys can probably run a 4:00 mile. that makes 4:55 feel easy and you are more efficient at it. does ryan ever do speed? i.e. some dang 400\\\'s. go through a track(5k 10k) training cycle and then do your 6-8weeks of 130or whatever mpw. i guarunfreakintee you will run fast. thats why your first dam marathon was fast--you had just gotten done with track training.
or maybe you should just go pwn an ultra and show those 50-100mile racing losers what a real man can do
All talk and no action for Ryan
Still hasn't matched the performance in Houston. He was amazing and effortless. Pretty much ran the whole thing by himself. Things probably need to get a bit worse for him before he starts over. Look at video of Houston vs Philly. Listen to what he was saying before and after races 3 years ago. The confidence isn't there. He's not the runner he once was.
I think missing London might be the motivation he needs to be successful (assuming he misses).
I signed on and looked at the message board.....and this is not even among the current top 20 threads? I would think it would be #1. Is this actually a running website?
he just posted a happy clappy post today about how he loves his tapering... is this really legit?
also, what else is he gonna train for now? i'm hoping he has a sudden revelation like two days before the race and jumps back in... if anyone would do something like that it would be hall

Terrence also posted a blog on there today about "running like a champion." Seems odd.
Maybe it's a Terrence issue, maybe not. Ryan is not done. He's tough and he's a competitor. Any runner goes through ebbs and flows. You're either delusional or completely oblivious if you have not noticed this about your own running. Let Ryan figure it out and crush it. It worked for Solinsky. It's working for Webb. Give Ryan, a great guy, a chance to win.

Tapering...here's what I like to do with the free time...http://bit.ly/MTSRyanHall
Agree! I think runnersworld has more commentary on this.
Whats sad, if his training, however inadequate he feels it to be, has been geared towards fast and flat, I doubt he would be very successful on the hillier New York course a few weeks later.
He's missed Berlin. So what other choices does he have for the fall? Cant imagine just taking all the buildup he's done for Oct, tapering down, and then refocusing on a race this spring... seems like a waste.
Not sure what other races are left this fall that would pay the $$ he'd want?
I'd love to see him take this opportunity to stop putting all his eggs in one basket every season, take a little time off and then start training maybe for XC, maybe hop in the half marathon at Houston again...just have some fun! How can you be an elite runner and only run 2 or 3 races every year?

It's not that hard when two major marathons provide such a significant percentage of your annual earnings.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
