many thanks to the real,- Berlin-Marathon organizers! the coverage of the race was great and, had it not rained, it could've been even better!
the online tracking was well put together and worked without a hitch. great organizing. hopefully the other major marathons coming up have equal or better coverage....
thank you to Eurosport as well, for covering the race an offering excellent commentary!
Hi,
this was definetely no world record weather. Makau stated today he felt he lost a minute and a half due to rain and wind. Muscles got cold and stiff. A friend of mine ran the race too and he reported lots of water on the streets which made the feet wet and it cost a lot of power trying to jump the many puddles. He was also way off his PB this time. I think it was the first rain Marathon in Berlin since 20 years. Maybe next year it will be WR time again.
For me, I think that the time loss due to shoes slipping on the slick streets, jumping puddles, muscles cramping up due to cold, wind and rain, was more like about 5 minutes.
I am truly amazed that Mr. Makau ran 2:05. He'll get the world record for sure.
I don't think so.......
I really like how in your theory a 20 year old just ran 2:00:xx for the marathon...
maybe worth more like 45-75 seconds (~2-3 seconds per mile)
I think you are right. 5 minutes are way over the top. Maybe some amateurs have lost that much but for professional athletes the difference definetely isn´t so huge. I believe in dry conditions Hailes WR would have been in real danger and if it isn´t too windy in Chicago the record may fall there.
Thanks for the reports on the weather.
Definitely very impressive times for those conditions. Looks like these were 2:03's on another day.

2 Questions:
(1) Did YOU run in Berlin on Sunday?
(2) What part of "for me" did you not read?
Even with no wind, Chicago will not beat the current WR(at least for now). The best Kebede will do is just under 2:05 but from what I hear from my Ethio friends, he is not in that kind of shape. He will prob do a 2:05:20s. Robert Cheruiyot and Vincent Kipruto who are in the field will certainly put up a fight with Kebede but in the end Kebede will carry the day. As for Sammy Wanjiru, he is likely to drop out with an knee or back injury within the first half of the race. The world record awaits London where Makau-Kebede-Kirui showdown is a must watch for all marathon lovers.
Chill Jason....
Good race btw. Sub 2:28 and 2nd master is not bad. Forget the children here.
Speaking of which, what are the US master rankings in the marathon. I looked a bit online and didn't see anything except for track times.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
