I think that German will finish about as well as he did in 2008 and 2009. Of course, if Smith's training is ruining him, he may have to struggle to do so well. Please don't fall down again German.

Look old guy, I like you but..."If GF is 100% I don't thing, a will have just turned, 20 year-old..."
WTF is that supposed to mean
1. 100% healthy
2. GF turns 20 I believe November 2nd, So, come NCAA'S he'll have just turned 20.
I just kinda figured everyone would know what 100% meant, since everyone talks about GF being healthy and everyone knows how young he is. It will be hard for him to beat SC.

hahaha do you even follow NCAA XC? You know that as a junior Sam Chelanga won by 25 seconds, right?
I am just hoping and that is why my post is ignorant. But I just want to see him challenge Sammy.
Remeber, talent, with a solid 6 months of training for this guy could make a big difference.
i think you guys are failing to recognize Chelenga as a talent also. The dude was playing PING PONG just a few years ago then switched to running and is now running almost under 27:00 for 10k.
It does not matter their ages, he and German have about the same training background and Chelenga is much faster.
I'm pretty sure he ran the 13:25 before he won the NCAA 1500.
The problem with smith's training is it sucks.
Fernandez's first year was simply a carryon from his high school training, along with the added distance base and competition from the university, and he's done nothing more since.
He won't do anything until he graduates and gets away from smith, IF THEN. But unfortunately his talent is being destroyed in the meantime.
Well God damn! we have ourself one hell of a coach here on Letsrun! DUDE, you need to go and save GF from the big bad wolf Smith, and let him know that you are the only Coach with knowledge and results for him! Now go back to blowing your meat whistle.
Well apparently "pretty sure" isn't good enough, because it was after. which proves the rest of your post inaccurate by default. He had anemia his sophomore xc year, that has nothing to do with training, it has to do with diet, which he happened to change before he had anemia. He then redshirted track after being tripped by an official and getting injured in the indoor season. where this is smith's fault due to his "crazy" training idea i fail to see.
Actually the 1500 and 5k were June 13 and June 26, 2009 respectively.
So I was right, they were around the same time, in fact they were within 13 days.
He has not run anything well since that time.

When you say "junior," you make him sound 21, not freaking 25.
A top 10 finish would be good at this point. But like many others out there, I would love to see him win it.
I believe he ran ~7:51 indoors at UW earlier this year after only a little training and nothing in the way of expectations. The video is still probably on Flotrack. He was seemingly out of the race altogether and then put in an incredible surge with several laps to go. He wasn't quite sharp enough to contend for the win (McNeill took it). Remarkable talent. And I'm sure he will continue to impress.
Will finish top 5. All of you bashing smith may want to consider that the team finished 1st at the ncaa champs last year. I guess he is not that bad.
i didnt know when you say something is before something, when it is actually after something, that makes you right. must be opposite day or something. maybe i am feeding the troll
Way to go Sherlock.
top returnees, by place from last year's ncaa's:
chelanga
mcneill
derrick
kirui
chipangama
ulrey
lowe
IF fernandez stays healthy ALL season, that is until, healthy through the END of ncaa's 10k race (not rupturing an achiles tendon with 2k to go), then I could see him placing in the top 10. Chelanga and McNeill are probably going to leave everyone else in their dust with the exception of maybe Derrick. I would be surprised if Fernandez can hang with anyone in the top 5 for the whole race. Not that he has the talent, but he has a lot to re-establish as far as being a consistently dominant runner.
I think: "I doubt that at NCAA XC champion GF, who by that point will have just turned 20, will be able to beat a 24 year old runner capable of a 27:08 10k. "

Does nobody remember how German finished at World Junior Cross his freshman year??? I'm pretty sure he can run with anybody at NCAA nats!
I say 1st as Dave smith will let him go from the gun[/quote]
LOL.
You guys are pulling for an injured mexican over a 27:15 kenyan? The kenyan american will be in his best shape ever. Apparently you guys don't remember him dominating last years NC's... or the other 99% of the races he's run in where, if you look at the pictures, you can't even see another runner in the race. Unless it's a starting line picture (and even then they are a behind the picture blur).
Anyway, the original poster should rephrase his question.
It's not "German Fernandez will finish ______ at NCAAXC."
It should be "German Fernandez will ____ at NCAAXC."
I say that because past evidence (over 50% of national championship races he's had the chance for) leads me to believe that German either won't finish the race or won't start the race. Just as past evidence leads me to believe that Chelanga will destroy everyone, again.
"Again" is my favorite word in the alphabet, as it is expected. Yet you doufesses are not expecting it. "Again" in regards to Chelanga winning, again. "Again" in regards to fernandez nowhere in sight, again.
