Has it occurred to anyone that just maybe Stephanie Hightower's political aim is bigger than USATF...like maybe a seat on the IAAF Council, and that Doug is/was a political liability? Just sayin...

If y'all want real change in the USATF structure, the 2012 convention in Daytona Beach is when the president is elected. You better have a candidate in hand that has the political clout to beat Hightower, and the support of the Athletes Advisory Committee, which neither Dee Jensen or Bob Bowman had in Reno...my dog had a better shot at being president than either of them, and that paved the way for what we have now.

During my post collegiate distance running career I attempted to gain access to the USOTC in San Diego or Colorado Springs. I had exceeded the athletic performance requirements necessary to qualify for use of these facilities. As a track and field athlete, my application had to be approved by Brooks Johnson. I had several personal conversations with Brooks and even spent a couple of weeks at an elite athlete training clinic at the facility in San Diego while he was there. He kept offering reasons why he couldn't approve my application. I would successfully defend my eligibility and he would reply a month to six weeks later with another reason why he thought I was not qualified. This continued throughout the winter of '03 - '04 until I gave up. After the Olympic Trials in '04, I quit competing because of my frustrations and financial stress. I have since found that I am not the only person who has been disappointed with the authority he has been given in our sport.
Brooks Johnson also manipulated things so that he'd get double the salary by designating his Florida home as a training center. That way he'd get paid for San Diego and Florida, while he did little to nothing at either.
I was there in 1997 and qualified my comment with the "save for one year" caveat. Only one month before that I was in Fukuoka for the snow-impaired race there, too.For weather, Houston wins hands down. I have been present in NY when the weather was less than favorable 50% of the time.Yes, pass the Orville Redenbachers.

Moe's Tavern - you must have been there in 1997? Yep, the weather has always been good, except for '97. The sleet was not-so-fun.
But I digress ... continue the rants on Johnson & Logan!
And pass the popcorn.
Glad to see everyone involved decided to stay classy through all this and not air their dirty laundry.
What a bunch of dolts. All of them including Logan.
Better to be thought a fool then open your mouth and remove all doubt.
Pass the popcorn indeed.
Also, one of the most bizzare blogs I have ever seen. OMFG...
PASS THE SALAMI!

As to his belief that Houston was the right place for the Marathon Trials. Yeah, Houston shares complete climate similarities with London...
Get a clue, kid. They don't need "complete climate similarities," yet Houston in January is probably fairly similar to London in August.
The Johnson blog was indeed odd- I skimmed over it just enough to see that his epitome of an 800-10,000 meter runner (as if that was one category) was Mary Decker-Slaney, and that Jim Ryan (sic) was also on that level. Interesting choices- drug cheat for one, can't spell the other's name.
Normally when there are organizations that I disagree with, I just revoke my membership. Unfortunately, this isn't really a great option for USATF. I like running on our local team circuit, and USATF membership is mandatory for that. I know all of the local USATF officials; for the most part nice guys trying to give back/stay involved in the sport. Sadly, can't separate the local and national USATF, so I guess I will keep funding this nonsense.
yeah, i had to respond to this one on my blog as well. Crazy talk. This whole situation is crazy and sad for our sport.
Again. Who the hell wants to go back the days of TAC? The management is just that inept.

Your blog is incorrect. Logan wasn't fired by text message. Willie Banks told him while the other guy in the room was texting.

You beat me to it.
I didn't bother reading past the first line.
It's worst than odd.
Logan is going to sue over his contract and this blog seems to support, among other things, that he wasn't given a chance even before he started.
Very strange that people in a leadership role can just blog whatever they want (and just crazy talk, like voices in his head talking with each other) when there is a substantial legal issue they face.
And for what reason?
Un freakin real.

He made some decent points in the blog though.

Agree! Bump
Unbelievable - they actually think that they are more important than the runners - Webb, Hall, Rupp, Solinsky, Teg, Lagat and many others. Talk about dysfunctional.
If Brooks Johnson is as inept as person and board member of USATF High Performance Division chair as he is a coach...then god help that organization. I mean really, is this the type of characters that are involved.
WTF is wrong with this group of dysfunctional, greedy a$$hats???
corrected.so sorry that you didn't bother to read any further. one mistake doesn't rule out a few good points.
