Stop over analyzing. You are making a complete fool out of yourself, more so than usual.

1) The story is about a 37-year-old woman who is attempting to make an Olympic team after being away from the sport for about 10 years. Her youthfulness (looks or otherwise) is pertinent to the story, especially when the author makes it a point.
No, you have made it "a point."
2) I have not said anything unflattering about Melody Fairchild. In fact, quite the opposite. I've said several times now that she is attractive and looks fit. She just doen't look like a 22 year old. How is that unflattering? She doesn't look like a 10 year old either. There are probably a handful of women in the United States who are 37 and yet look 22 without photo touch up.
The age someone looks is entirely subjective. It is up to each person to decide.
3) What do I get out of it? I comment to debate the wrong, and the writer's statement was just flat out wrong. He could have said she had a blue horn growing out of her forehead and he would have been as right about that as he was that she looks 22. It was a ridiculous comment and should be called out. I call out ridiculous comments.
What gives YOU the right to call someone else out for a comment they made? You defend your opinions to the bitter end. You attack other people's opinion to the bitter end. Get over yourself, please. You cannot have it both ways Flagpole.
1) NO, the author made it a point -- he mentioned it. I would not have had a point to make had he not made that ridiculous comment.2) Technically yes, the age someone looks is subjective, but would you look at the 88-year-old Betty White and say she looks 22? No. So, that means there's a reasonable cutoff to looking 22, and no reasonable person would look at the 37-year-old Melody Fairchild and think she looked 22.3) I get to call this writer out, because he wrote a piece for public consumption. Well, I have consumed and found it bitter (meaning incorrect).
Flagpole = bitter, grumpy old man. You have become your own worst nightmare.
You really do need to go out and smell the roses. Take a long vacation and leave the phone and internet off. I doubt you'll do these things but it you really do owe it to yourself.

Just answer the question, what do you get out of demanding an anal-retentively accurate portrayal of a woman's appearance, especially when it has little to do with the subject of the article? It's not like the author wildly misstated Fairchild's PR or something pertinent like that. Those who are eager to jump in and make unflattering remarks about women's appearances are probably misogynists at heart.
That's why his wife is leaving him.
And that's the reason Flagpole posted his silly comment, and continues to defend himself against all comers.
Flagpole is very unhappy, maybe even sad, and he is lashing out at people.
Like others who have noticed this problem of Flagpole's I wish him the best in getting better.
She may not look 22, but is she single? Could be a good rebound Flagpole....
Go Melody!!!!
I remember the day she ran that indoor 3000m record. I was there!
As for her age, she looks fine and I'm sure that she knows what she looks like (not 22). Why did the writer say this? Think about it - she's a small, fit woman running down the road at, what, maybe 6:30 or so and that looks young to people. People generally look younger when they are in running clothes or running. i think the writer is assuming that people that are 37 are generally unfit and not so attractive, so associates fitness with youth.
Umm...wife not leaving me brother. The dude with the wife of 19 years (who was leaving him) and three kids from last week is not me. I've been married 21 years and have only 2 kids.

No rebound required brother. I'm happily married to my wife of 21 years.

No. She looks twenty-one. Or she looks like Morgan Fairchild. Or she had a child with Morgan Freeman.
21 years with a nimrod like Flagpole must've aged her 62 years.
Did she run Houston?
Is Melody Fairchild udpate?

I looked up the results and could not find her name. This article was written in the fall of 2010. Does anyone know if she even ran Houston or if she is still thinking of running another marathon?
I am a huge Melody Fairchild fan, having met her in Boulder when she was a teenager. She was simply amazing to watch run.
By the way, what Flagpole said about her not looking 22 was correct and there was nothing wrong with pointing it out. It was a wierd statement by the author of that story. Several times Flagpole commented on how attractive she looked so he was in no way trying to put her down.
I know that she did not toe the line in Houston, unsure why though.
Did Flagpole's wife leave him yet? Wondering if that's what threw off his market prediction wednesday.

What a silly question.
