USATF has become such an incestously craptastic organization that it has absolutely no hope of ever fixing itself. It's time to nuke it and start over.

you actually think that the UNC basketball team is not a small company in and of itself? please. it generates more revenue and has more employees than and a lot of companies and is under more scrutiny and public attention than just about any company.
you also used the words "any system" (not my words). if you meant to use a more specific term (not that it really matters), next time it might help to actually use that term if you don't want people to attack your poorly chosen term.
lastly, sorry to break the news to you, but, it is "on doug logan to get people to run fast." he's the head and he's the fall guy if we have a horrible olympics. there are many aspects to his job and producing successful world class athletes at the olympics and WCs is one of the most important ones. he actually succeeded in that endeavor.
Gotta love those Annual Meetings in Hawaii after all.
You're nuts. Turning around a basketball team with a record of success is a lot easier.
Side note, USA athletes are running fast. We had a great year performance-wise. Getting some sponsors is the bigger deal.
tell that to the university of michigan. it may be easy for you sitting at your computer but it's a lot harder in the real world. regardless, it doesn't take 3-5 years minimum to fix "a system."
You don't have to look any further than Jeff Darman being on the Board to know that Logan (or anyone else) was destined to fail. Darman is a tumor for the sport, always has been, always will be. He is a petty, childish, delusional ego maniac who spouts BS so convincingly that other inexperienced Board members inexplicably suck up to him and take their direction from him. I would not be surprised if he has very close ties to Brooks Johnson and John Chaplin and communicates with them regularly and undermined Logan behind the scenes every chance he got. His M.O. is to hover in the background and stir up shit without calling attention to himself. I would love it if the USATF Board offered him the CEO job and he accepted it. It's time that old puke was held accountable....he's a small time player who thinks he's a T&F god. He's a total joke! Wejo, your credibility is near zero when you use Darman as your voice of authority. Dig deeper and you'll see what I mean. USATF has no product to sell, never did, never will and with amateurs like Darman firmly entrenched they (USATF) are destined to remain insignificant in the sports world. God help whoever follows Logan....they too will fail.
Number one problem with USATF and the sport of track and field in this country is it is all built and run ass backwards.
Simple question....when the NFL has a problem that needs to be addressed, do they run and ask Joe Paterno to solve it?
Larry Elder blogs abot Logan

You are either confused about who Jeff Darman is, or you have a weird personal vendetta against him. Jeff is an absolute first class act who serves this sport extremely well and in a completely unselfish manner. If we had more Jeff Darman's in the USATF we'd have a hell-of-a lot stronger organization.
Darman included.
This guy sponsors shoe catalogs with USATF so he isn't neutral at all and has deep finanial interests. He takes the side of the status quo obviously since he wants to continue to have good relations with USATF.
I didn't use the term "any system" so I have no idea what you're talking about. If you want to attack me, might as well attack something I actually said.
The Coach of the UNC basketball team is not at all akin to the CEO of USATF. Many of the budgetary decisions for college teams come down from the A.D., it is not up to a coach to balance a budget; he is given the budget.
I stand by my statement that Doug Logan is not responsible for how fast our Olympians run. Maybe he should be, but this really not how USATF is designed. There is very little support designated for our elite athletes from USATF. They are not responsible for hiring/firing personal coaches, writing workouts, providing gear or money for that matter. This is all left up to individual athletes. Now, if our Olympians perform poorly because of terrible conditions at the pre-Olympic training camp, that's a separate issue. Most of the programs currently in place are meant to aid developing athletes. The only case where I really hold USATF responsible is for relay teams, where lack of preparation results in the baton being dropped. AND DOUG FIRED THAT COACH! That's the right thing to do!
Anyway, people who have not dealt with USATF can only imagine how corrupt and ineffectual it actual is...and reality is worse than what they are imagining. I truly hope the USOC takes over and cleans house.
logan is pimp shit dumping him was a mistake
That was me that used the term "any system" not fortune500 so don't attack him. That may seem a bit strong or long, but to do an effective job without destroying the integrity it normally takes quite a period of time. Maybe 3-5 years is too long to imagine, but you will find quite a few corporations that turned things around in that amount of time. The systems may have been put in place earlier, but the results take longer to achieve - just like it takes time in training. Of course there are outliers in any discussion! I can think of several marathon coaches that say it takes 4-7 years to develop for the marathon even though the athlete may run marathons and be successful - ultimate success is a bit longer. Now maybe a reasonable discussion here just can't happen as is quite common on this board.
Name me three significant things that Darman has done to "serve the sport extremely well".
Hell, while you are at it name me three things that ANY of the long time Board Members have done to serve the sport extremely well.....
Still waiting for your examples...has hell frozen over yet?
From the recently concluded USATF annual meeting....this is the "Personnel Committee Report" verbatim:
"Personnel Committee
The committee has had a very agenda over the past year. Many telephone conference and in person meetings have taken place during this time.
The committee has been busy with developing and implementing a succession plan to fill the CEO position. We met with several search firms and Bialla & Associates was chosen to seek applicants and to make a recommendation to the Board in early 2011.
The work of this committee has been intense and time consuming – a big “thank you” is due to its members, most especially to Jeff Darman, who took the lead in many of its activities.
Members include:
Elizabeth Phillips Aretha Thurman Dena Kastor Steve Miller Steve Holman
Our special thanks to Mike McNees for filing the role of Acting CEO while our search continues to fill the CEO position; to our Chair, Stephanie Hightower; to Larry James Attorney to the Board; to Pete Smith, and to the Board for its advice and support.
Respectfully submitted by,
Dr. Evie G. Dennis Chair"
Once again Darman shows up. Do you really think this guys is qualified to head up the committee spearheading the search for a new CEO for USATF. Good Luck with that search.....candidates beware.
Still waiting for "GotABugUpYour?" to list Darman accomplishments......
Rumor has it that Lananna has filed an application of interest. If so, I hope he is only half serious. He has a great job where he is, why would he want to get in the middle of this snake pit? Sure, he could do a lot for USATF, but like Craig Masback, he will quickly learn that these people don't want change and are only feathering their own nests.
I don't think they are far enough along in the process to be taking any sort of applications yet.
