I didn't know Defar's medals didn't count.

Is this a real question? It's like asking is who is going to win in the Great North Run Ritz or Geb.

martin lel should not be forgotten in the great north run.
philadelpia
1. defar 1:05.30 (why not that is what defar does break world records in running)
2. kidane ridiculously underrated more top 3 finishes in world xc than any other woman. 30:07 track 10k
3. flanagan under kastor's 1:07.34 american record (note goucher ran 66:57 on a slightly aided course
1. ) smith
2, ) defar
3. ) s. flanagan
smith is the real deal

Also very nice trolling.

Also, Flanagan was at her best under Cook, now, not so much.

You are both right. Many kinds of fish are at their best when undercooked. Some are also best before cooking.
Pick the winner? Defar
A US record for Shalane would mean that she is not doing what is necessary to be successful in New York. If her training is going well for New York, then she will run right around 70 minutes. Anything faster means that her focus is wrong. If she runs an AR in Philly, she will DNF in New York.

Cf. Kara Goucher in the Chicago Half just before the WC last year. "I felt great! I ran 2 or 3 minutes faster than Alberto planned!" FFW to the WC, "I don't know what happened! My body was just throwing up all my drinks!"
Thank You. That is just one of many exaples.
Typo EXAMPLES. Sorry
Shalane can still run the AR in Philly and be well prepared for the NYC Marathon - with a good training program, which I assume she's on. Defar without an upcoming marathon and primed for the half will be tough to beat. Kidane has a half marathon best of 1:08:09 from 2005 and don't know what her current form is.
Top 8
Meseret Defar
(Gap)
Lineth Chepkurui
Shalane Flanagan
Kim Smith
Derartu Tulu
Werknesh Kidane
etc
..... tells us that you are wrong. In your debut especially. You need to focus on the MARATHON.
It's all relative to what their marathon ability is. I mean, if Flanagan runs 1:08, and then runs 2:22 at NY, will you still think she didn't prepare properly? And if she bombs and run 1:12, will that mean that marathon prep is going swimmingly?
Also, why is everyone so sure the Defar is going to kill at half marathon when she's been racing 3ks and 5ks all year? I agree that long term she's a WR threat, but either she wasn't training full out for her track races this year or she's not completely prepared for a half marathon. Granted even half ready she's fast as hell.

What about Hall´s HM AR? Seem to remember that he ran OK in the spring...
Defar will win or DNF.
well. wrote:

Wrong Again. Hall ran his marathon in Houston BEFORE he started his marathon specific training. His marathon was 14 weeks later. NOT 6 or 7 weeks prior.

Half-marathon in Houston. Otherwise right on.
I actually like Kim Smith in this one.
