As the knowledable LR scholars of poetry know, poetry of the neoclassical era was aimed at sophisticated readership and tended to be didactic, decorous and refined. It emphasized the primacy of reason, the mind and absolute truths. It harked back to the balance, harmony and themes associated with classical Greek and Roman literature.
