Glad to see some sanity return to the board. So many folks wrote him off after his low key 1:52 800 meter.
I guess they had never experienced a planned comeback from an injury.
3:36 is good all by itself.

I started really following Webb when he started coming back in 2004. That's when I started following pro track. I've been frustrated at times but never gave up on the kid. His career's been like the economy. Sometimes it sucks, sometimes it's awesome. Right now it's goin up.

Official member of the Webb at 5000 and 10000m bandwagon. I will not however jump on any bandwagon that features Webb at 1500/mile in 2011 or 2012. He's been there professionally for over eight years and it is time to move up. It is time.
The Waterboy.
Also indoor 2007, he had a string of wins one right after another, starting with the New Balance games, Reebok indoor, indoor nationals, all those little outdoor meets he ran sub 4 at, drake relays, reebok grand prix, AR for the mile, his 800, USA nationals, fifth avenue mile. His only bad race was the pre 2 mile, and he had good showings at the World Championships and World athletics final. All in all his 2007 year was sick.
Congratulations on getting married soon and for being happy with your new life, including your new coach, where you live, and your training.
I live in the Northern VA area and run into web right before he went out west. His younger brother was running a race around burke lake and alan was there to watch.
I saw him from a distance and no one knew who he was...so i just walked over and spoke to him.. At first he was not too comfortable talking. I just kept it simple and said... Hey i heard you are going out west... good luck! you will definitely come back etc.,
He said a couple of things that was interesting. He did not know about how well dathan had run a recent 10,000. I think dathan had run 27:22.. he was surprised to hear that.
I told him i always defend him on letsrun... and he cracked a huge smile..
He struck me as the type of guy that easily gets affected by ups and downs in his career. Easy to get excited and easy to feel down.
Wish him the best. he is a great talent and I am glad that threads like this are popping up!
Alan is the real deal.. we all know it.
Handle: i kinda like running
Been on the bandwagon since: Alan was in high school. Never left the bandwagon.
Positive comment: "His speed is still improving significantly with each passing week and I would expect him to have a 1:46 in him if he ran a well-paced 800 later this week. So, I think a 3:38 would be a conservative estimate. I say 3:36."
-- on the Milan thread just before his 3:36.
I'm in, good luck Alan we're with you
Ben a fan of Webb since he ran sub 4 indoors in high school. Never got off the bandwagon. Definitely my favorite US runner.
I have to admit I'd given up on Webb, although i was never a hater. still, I'm not convinced he'll be America's best miler again, not with Wheating & Leo & other. Still, I agree he could be the US best at 5k if he focuses on it.
I'd feel better about his prospects if we were seeing strong 2nd seasons from the OTC guys - Ritz & Teg haven't shown much this year, Solinsky & Wheating is just now breaking through. the question is if Al Sal 7 Jerry can keep their guys healthy for a few years in a row.
For better or worse I've been on the bandwagon since his 2004 Home Depot 3:35 1500. The first time he had set a PR at 1500 since his Senior year in HS I believe. At the time he had left Michigan after a sub par year there (for him), and I'm pretty sure that's when he had his first achillies problem (in college during indoors 01-02), and people had basically all but forgotten him. That Home Depot race was so huge because it's where he became the runner who truely could break the AR in the mile, and run with the best in the world, not just be a HS phenom with a lot of promise. So I'm still on, and always will be...go Alan.
(1) - The Concrete Runner
(2) - I was never unsupportive of Webb. I've always had his back. I've never said anything negative about him. You know why? Because he ran 37 seconds faster in the mile than I did in high school.
(3) - Alan Webb will once again rule supreme. Watch the video of him winning in Paris in 2007 that's set to interpol.

. Webb is exciting. I don't care about his past. It looks like he's the only one we have who can stick it out at the world level.
Webb. I've got your back. Keep it on the 'crete. It's the only way to really toughen up that tender achilles.
Let's fire this engine back up and take the 'wagon for one last spin before putting it away until the indoor season.
Great day for Webb. Getting out and competing (and not worrying about time), which is exactly what the man needs. Should be another big confidence boost and something to motivate him for the upcoming base period...
Just actually read this thread. Good stuff.

On the wagon since: was never on the wagon.
Got off the wagon: if I had been on, would have gotten on after '08 Trials.
Now on the wagon: the minute I read that he was heading to be coached by Salazar.
Remember: when you joined you made a commitment to ride this bandwagon in bad times and good time.
The coaching change has me a little worried. But, I'm still riding this thing into the ground until Daegu.
Sometimes I ghost ride the Alan Webb bandwagon just for the thrill.
WEBB IS BACK BABY!!
Riding that sumbitch into oblivion and beyond!!!
I am still going to root for the dude to make a miraculous come back.
Seen him run some amazing times up close and personal.
I will always be a Webb fan. Until he retires. Dude was inspiring when he was in his prime and I think a lot of us know what it's like to not be at the level you once were. Regardless of how he finishes his career, he the MAN and I will ride this wagon to the ends of the Earth!
GO WEBB

i think he will come up just short of his quest to become america's top 1500/miler as andrew wheating was so impressive his first year as a pro after a long college season.
i say webb will make the 2011 world champs and 2012 olympic teams, which is no small accomplishment manzano and lamong likely to improve, and with german fernandez with so much potential we could have 6-7 sub 3:32 for 1500 runners in 1 year.
timewise his personal best's will be
1:43.4 for 800
3:29.9 for 1500
mile his personal best will stay the same as there are so few actual mile races being run.
7:29.5 for 3k
12:51 for 5k american record if lagat does not improve his personal best.
I think Webb said it best , he cannot run off of what he did in the past , he has to race to what he is able to do today. He's coming along without question. His fastest days may be behind him from the 800-mile , he can improve PR's 5k and 10k I feel. His biggest quest now is to compete at a high level again , be able to be in the hunt at the finish. Time's will follow. Pre was not great but it put him in a good field and he had to race , money in the bank for the future.
