how about this guy? Anybody every heard of him? Running 3:36 at age 17? SICK!!
Actually, I believe that his birthdate is listed as sometime in October 1993 (October 10 or thereabouts), so he's still 16.
He was DQed in the world junior 1500 after finishing first in his heat, and ran a then-PB of 3:38:++ earlier this season.
Pretty impressive stuff, assuming that the info on him is accurate. His time in this race would probably be the lead story on letsrun.com if he were American.

Probably?
I'll be honest: I fist-pumped when I saw the homepage, and I'm not even American.

in years past the standard could be gotten from at least June of the previous year.
about him at Moncton World Jr's 2010....
"However there was a disaster for Hillary Maiyo. Kenya's IAAF World Junior Cross Country champion was red carded for an infringement during his race."
if he were American, then he would be a legit 16 and he would deserve to head the front page. But he's Kenyan, so we have no idea whether he is sixteen or twenty or twenty-three. Either way, he's making his way onto the scene and is likely to make his mark in the low 3:30s over the next two years.
yeah, that's pretty good. math is fun!

This conversion stuff works! With some more conversions I plan on breaking the world record soon.
POD!
Alan Webb is finally getting great coaching. I am happy for him for his recent comeback successes. He deserves it and will probably run faster than he ever has sometime in the next 2 years and beyond.

For the USATF Championships, yes, and that still applies. In previous years, there was an 18 month qualification window for the World Championships, beginning January 1 the year prior to the year of the championships.
Just posting the results for those that might have missed them.

Since you "love google," try to find any other source saying that Hillary Maiyo was the IAAF World Junior Cross Country champion. I didn't find any official verification of that. Perhaps I missed something.

Uhhhh... any connection between the Hillary Maiyo that raced today and this one? I realize that two people can have the same name, but we've all seen this before...
So at the end of the race as i was on the grass outside lane 8, i managed to ask Webb how he was feeling as he looked pretty relaxed on the final stretch and throughout the race, and very much in testing mode.
And he said "5 seconds better in two weeks" and flashed a big smile. Wished i could have stayed to chat some more but i had to go.
When the meet finished and all the Milanese were leaving to go out to the Notte Bianca (All night) celebrations around town, Webb in his black tights started to run clockwise in lane 2 at about 1:20 per lap. He must have done at least 10 looking just really fluid.
One of the stewards said "Hey look, the American is doing defatigamento (cool down but literally translated de-tirement...)

The McMillan calculator is pretty accurate.
Type in 26:59 and it predicts you could run 12:59.

no, that's not true. The mcmillan calculator does not predict what you could do, it tells you what the equivalent performance woul be at the distance in question. It isn't a predictor that's why the difference is subtle. Example: plugging in Bolts 100 time doesn't yield a predition of what Bolt can run the marathon in but what an equivalent performance would be relative to what has been run by others
Interesting that they have changed the window for qualifying from Jan 1 prior year to Oct 1 prior year.
And area champs are in regardless if they hit the A or B standard.
The standards won't be released until November but I suspect they will be slower with the smaller window.
This changes the race schedule for those attempting to make Worlds. They can't just start the year with a qualifier and focus on making the team and gearing for Worlds.
It shouldn't be an issue, though.
I know the youtube videos of Webb's recent races haven't been great quality, but does anyone else have an unusually hard time picking him out from the group? Before this year, he had such a distinct running style, it was clear who Webb was. Now, he looks completely different (and more like his peers)!
He left things too late yesterday. If that was a mile, and he had the confidence to go at the same time he did yesterday, he would have been 2nd. Willis was unbeatable yesterday in a 1500 and a mile. He looked on cruise control. Webb had way too much left, though. He probably left 2 seconds out there. I would guess that Webb is probably in 3:34 SHAPE right now. He won't have any more opportunities to run that, but I would guess he theoretically is fit enough to. Pretty awesome.
I wonder what he could race a 5k in right now?
Ridiculous! You shouldn't even be allowed to be a track fan. I bet you were a fan of the Patriots when they were winning Super Bowls and now you are wearing a Saints jersey around. Webb is exactly were Sal. said he would be.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
Rest in Peace Adrian Lehmann - 2:11 Swiss marathoner. Dies of heart attack.
