She should have been DQ'd.

I agree. DQ'd but then 8th place is pretty damning in of itself.
It was pretty flagrant. I replayed it on the TV (Tivo) and it was obvious that Lagat was a "hooker". Plus as she fell she tried to grab the front runner from behind. Very much like a bad slasher movie.
Cheating is a bit harsh though. Silly, yes. But cheater, no.

How do you guys define cheating? Flagrantly breaking the rules of the sport in addition to physically impeding - by grabbing her - an opponent is just as much cheating as shooting yourself up with HGH, EPO and a nice dianobol/nandrolone stack. At least with drugs, you're not slowing anyone else down while you cheat. I don't think there is a worse form of sportsmanship and cheating than trying to slow an opponent down. It's disgusting. I'll take the drug cheat over the manhandler/ run outside the lane any day.

Which you contributed to make longer. And it did in fact affect Hind. While it didn't affect her placing, it did affect her time. I suppose if someone grabbed you, attempted to knock you down, and try to steal a $30,000.00 first place purse, you would wouldn't cry foul?

Why didn't dehiba move outside to Lanes 6 or 7 where there wouldn't have been a chance for such a collision? She has some of the fault here and Langat was just trying to stay upright by holding onto Dehiba's arm after Dehiba appears to try to knock her down. Most of the fault here is with Dehiba for her dirty tactics.

VIPAM, this really is a disgusting post on your part. I think that a certain amount of your sensitivity about race over the years has been reasonable, and I've generally appreciated your focus on the accomplishments of African runners, but the "vibe" that you're "getting" doesn't seem to be much more than your own personal issues kicking around in your head. By the way, it sure looked to me that Langat deserved to be disqualified. I recognize, however, that reasonable people often interpret these kinds of episodes in very different ways. I'd like to hear Langat's explanation for her conduct.
