I believe that Jeilan is injured and out of the Olympics. But probably Mohammed Aman, Abubaker Kaki(?), Mo Farah and a few other contenders are Muslim.

Love that they are "estimated" dates because some Imam needs to see the moon do something. Why do muslims hate science?
Good grief. The Saudis nominate a 2:40/800m runner to be their first female t&f representative:
I will say that she looks somewhat faster than that, just based on the drills in the videotape.* Apparently she's more of a distance runner (at Pepperdine), but putting her in the 800 means there's less of a chance that she'll get (almost) lapped, which would be a danger in the 1500 (PR there: 5:30).
For those who want a shot of Ms. Attar sans headgear:

(No telling how long that pic will stay up. Pepperdine has deleted other bareheaded shots of the athlete, at her family's request; she's still in the team pic, though--third from right, back row:

This woman is not much of a runner, maybe, but looks/sounds like a good pioneer for SArabia. I wish her well, and it would be great if she PRs in the OG.
I have no idea whether she's going to observe Ramadan, though!
*The Brunei woman (later in the video) really looks kinda splayfooted. Not much of a chance there, I'd say, but I wish her all the best.
I'm obviously not very well read on my olympic qualifying rules but doesn't this woman have to hit either the "A" or "B" standard in order to be eligible to compete in the olympics? She obviously has not hit either of these times.

I think every country is allowed one male and one female entrant--either in athletics or in the OG overall--regardless of qualifying standard.
Welp, here's the first Ramadan story I've seen. Talks about Ahmed of Canada and an open water swimmer. I'm pretty sure Farah doesn't practice Ramadan, many European "Muslims" are not very traditional in this way.

No, you are right. God doesn't give everything I ask from him. There are either four things he does:
a) He gives me what I ask right away
b) He gives me what I ask, but maybe in the future- I just need to be patient.
c) He doesn't give me what I ask, but gives me something even better
d) He doesn't give me what I ask, but for a good reason
Recently came across this classic thread again, and also this nice video explanation (let it play through--it's not necessarily what you think):

FYI, Ramadan in 2013 is (roughly) from July 9th through August 7th. The World Championships don't start until August 10th, so the meet should not be directly affected.
religion is bullshit
there is no invisible man in the sky who cares about what humans do

Conceivably. That's why I included that "directly" thingy.
Anyway, the OG didn't seem to be *much* affected this year, and the conflict was Ramadan was direct.

well, ramzi and the guy who doped in the 1500 this year, forgot his name, didnt seem to bothered by it, and they are probably Muslim, right? not an expert on Islam, but wouldnt PEDs be considered wrong? if you were religious at all?
