just because it was called a race does not mean Webb was racing it.

For times of the Brits - One just has to look at Ovett's book to see he ran "dismal" times early in the season.
1977 - April 30th - 1:53.9
then 4:04.0 1500m same day
and 8:18 3000m
1978 - April 29th - 3:59.7 1500m and 8:16 3000 double
1979 - May 26th Crystal Palace - 3:53 1500m and 48.0 relay
From Coe's book:
1977 - July 3, Dewhurst games, 1:51.7
1979 - May 20 - 1:50.5 at Yorkshire champs (set 3 WR's that summer)
We do not know if they won by 30 seconds, pouring rain, ran backwards ... the point is, you have to have a starting benchmark. From there, you can determing what you are missing (strength and endurance, speed, style), and adjust your training to cover those areas.
My coach Mike Durkin, would take some races and go out as hard as he could go for the first 800m, then die and run 4:10. Or, run the 3rd lap as fast as he could, and die. He did not qualify for the 1980 Olympic Trials until the last meet possible (US Champs), and then made the OG team that we boycotted. He said, "all those other runners were laughing at me, saying I was out of shape. I had a plan (laughing), and wanted to see what I was made of." That type of attidude he talked to be about in 1984, and it only took me 3 years to ask him to coach me (March 1987).
And then for 11 years he was "my" coach. And yet, he only watched me one time in 11 years do a workout (May of 1992), but wrote all my training. One time in 11 years! Thank goodness Ken Popejoy was there from 1987-1993 to help me at the track 1-2 times a week.

.
HO!
Maybe , but maybe not , he is healthy , he is racing , he racing to gain leg speed back , he has time and he will be in Eugene if he he gets the standard in which I would bet he does.
He may not PR this year , but he will run fast and be competitive against the americans.
Am I the only one who read through 3 pages of this before realizing it was from 2010?

Didn't happen to me because on the first page it said first race in 2 years, which would not apply in this case since this is his third race in about a month. Where have you been the last month??
For the first time in a quarter century we have some truly decent middle distance runners. Why harp on Webb, there are plenty to fill his void. For starters we have symmonds, who was a wc finalist, and Centos who actually won a bronze medal!!!!For Webb own sake it would be great if he did run a 3:30 1500 again, but it is not going to really change the overall improvements made by US middle distance runners. Our women middle distance runners are having even better luck lately.
It is not just about Webb anymore.
OP is trolling, I lol'd. On a serious note I'm looking forward to how Webb progresses this season. I remain optimistic.

if youre gonna be a gaper, then take it down pancake style. its weak to see a once dank and knarly community get noodled by all these squids.
let this be a lesson to all of shoobies, crumbeaters, and chonners. jazz the glass when youre ready. this is the day you'll always remember as the day you got stank eyed by the big kahuna. s'later
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
