troof. same goes for symmonds. both ran great but at 200 they were last and 2nd to last. a couple tenths faster and they could've run all the turns in lane 1, and moved out to lane 2 on the straights if necessary.
But that's been the American way for international 800m races for a few decades.
Resluts?

woulda had a shot to win? did you miss the last 200? wheating only gets better and better and moves up and up. perhaps it's the other guys who need to watch his strategy.
besides, he's a 6'5" 1500 specialist, he does't blast out of the guns and he will go down in traffic. he found his race plan and it's working.

Your mom, and then your sister.
He needs to learn from Borza's mistakes. You can't medal from the back... oh wait!

So it worked pretty well for one guy...

There's that Borzakovskiy guy, too.

And there is the fact that wheating only uses this distance for speedwork.

WIN
Yes, I'm very familiar with the race. How many Americans since then have been successful with this "Let's run dead last for the first 200" approach?

How many Americans since Wottle have been successful period? Take front running Johnny Gray's style. no Gold or Silver for him if I remember correctly.
People find what works for them, others who aren't good enough to get on the International stage 2nd guess. The first series of International races for Wheating went well.

You will feel compelled to deny this, of course, in order to try to save face.
But the truth is that you did not even bother to watch the video, you figured that it was Wottle's victory from '72, and remained ignorant of the fact that it was a completely different example of someone evenly pacing and Olympic 800 final, (dropping to the back as that is what evenly pacing resulted in), running much of the race in outside lanes as necessary and kicking for he win.
Or at least you were ignorant until I just pointed it out to you.
Now, replacing ignorance is anger.

I gotta say, Wheating would have been a perfect fit for that race. I still believe Wheating should do the 1500, but that race right there is not only one that Wheating could medal in, he could win.

1/10 for caps. I didn't see anyone going after Borzakovskiy for this tactic.
The 200 went in 23.8 though there was some separation between Robinson and the pack. But everyone was 49-50 at 400. Wheating was moving well and coming off the turn looked to have a very good shot at winning. In the last 50-60 yards he seemed to tie up just a bit which suggests to me that he may have gone out too hard rather than too slowly.
