Tyson gets crap for not having personality while people like Craig Mottram and Lauren Fleshman say something about "having balls" and they get bashed here. Make up your minds people!

You say this, but Gay has been quoted in articles as being upset of being in Bolt's shadow. If he showed any personality whatsoever as a top American sprinter, he would be better liked and more marketable, regardless of Bolt.
Gay said he's upset it's Bolt in the Gatorade commercials and commercials where all American athletes are featured and then Bolt. Well, nobody wants to see you scowl and drink a bottle of Gatorade at the same time, Tyson.
There's nothing bad about being upset over being in Bolt's shadow. Usain is on the opposite end of the spectrum in how he acts and this puts Tyson at a disadvantage.
It's Adidas's and USATF's job to market Tyson Gay - they've failed horribly. Fastest guy in the U.S. and most American's don't know who he is.

Totally agree. This guy is the 2nd fastest man ever, is in the voluntary drug testing program and is a nice guy... watch his Beijing interviews - class act. He needs to be recognized more, just cause he isnt goofy like bolt doesn't mean he can't be famous and a big $$$ source for Adidas.
I've looked at David Oliver's facebook profile pictures, and Tyson Gay is in a couple of them. He is smiling in one of them at a football game.
Tyson Gay is awesome. He is quite and reserved, then goes out and burns up the track.

He just beat Bolt and he looked as serious as ever after the race and in the interview, if he lightened up I think he would gain a lot more fans.
It's the drugs. He feels guilty about the drugs and worries he'll be busted some day.
Bolt doesn't care and doesn't worry; he's a lot happier all the time.
I see this a lot: guy wins, lady brings flowers, athlete doesn't show the least grace such as a 'thank you', in fact, athlete ignores flower girl completely ruining what is a classy tradition to begin with. Gay did it here. Would it have killed him to say thank you to the lady? I hope the word gets out that shy or not, a little class goes a long way.
Some of our clients in the USA can't smile due to some steroids that they take. Doesn't mean they ain't classy. They always pay for their joints in full and in advance. Our local clients here in the UK are not as classy.
Anywayz, Bolt is king. Jamaica is the best. You Yankees can never beat Jamaica.
Happy Tyson in Eugene:

After watching the video of the race and looking at the mannerisms, its almost like Tyson was disappointed.
Can you imagine all the things going through his head even before he crossed the finish line ahead of Bolt? Two years of chasing Usain and finally he wins, but in a relatively slow performance. I think Tyson wants to beat Bolt when hes on his A-game, not in 9.9x.
true, he doesn't smile much post race like people would think. but they guy pretty much looks like he's about to cry if you watch him closely. when the camera goes close in on him after the race he looks like he's about to tear up, which shows he really does care

In the last link, which leads you to the best / most natural smile, he's sitting by pretty woman AND handing off the mic, so it's understandable.

It's hard to actually disagree with you - everyone needs to be polite. But those flower and water ladies are insanely aggressive. 15 seconds after a race do you want to deal with carrying around flowers and a bottle of water and maybe a towel? No - you want to enjoy the exertion, wait for the pain to go away and enjoy the moment. The flower ladies should step off a little.

If fans of the NBA/NFL/NHL/MLB can forgive its player's for rape, assault, cheating on wives, carrying guns, not trying, greed...then you should be okay with Tyson having a "boring" personality.
Wow!
This one did it for me. I have nothing to add.
Nice!

Tyson Gay is one of the classiest acts in all of track and field. He works hard and races harder. When he gets to the starting line, he's the only one who doesn't hide behind some facade, he's nervous, but intense and ready to go. I don't know how you people think he comes off as arrogant or whatever, but he is humble and honest. If that isn't enough for you guys to be a fan, and he needs to run around making a fool of himself like the other athletes in his field, then nobody can help you.
Another great observation.
I totally concur!
So your idea of the perfect personality is a woman who says she has bigger balls than other women..............wacko
Yes, but it looks fakish.

Have to agree w/ Tyson being humble and a genuinely nice guy. He forces a smile even though he may not want to be doing the autographs and photo-ops.
Gay is a professional athlete and is regularly performing in front of an audience. As a fan, how am I supposed to know he is a nice guy and just shy? No regular track spectator knows him personally and there is no reason for the casual fan to think he is anything but pompous and weird. The way he carries himself and how serious he is all the time makes me think he dopes like whoa. You know who else I've never seen smile? Rashid Ramzi...
